In April, I questioned Secretary Hegseth about the Ecuadorian boat strikes & US involvement in them. The Secretary accused me of making false accusations. Today’s Washington Post article proves otherwise. I am demanding an immediate investigation into this program & his remarks misleading Congress.

Yesterday afternoon, I visited the Plymouth County Correctional Facility again. And I can tell you that this administration’s inhumane polities are doing nothing to strengthen our borders or communities. In fact, ICE’s illegal actions make all of us less safe, as we saw this week in Biddeford.

Over 160 years after emancipation on Juneteenth, Donald Trump and the GOP are doing everything in their power to rip away the freedoms that generations of courageous Americans have fought and died to preserve. I refuse to stand down, and together, we will continue to fight for a more perfect union.

Yesterday, the House passed via discharge petition the Ukraine Support Act. In the absence of House GOP action, House Democrats and a few brave Republicans reaffirmed their support for Ukraine. This bill includes billions in vital assistance to Ukraine and comprehensive anti-Russia sanctions.

President Trump's war of choice in Iran is costing Americans millions. Tonight, I voted yes with the majority of House Members to pass an Iran war powers resolution making clear my opposition to this war.   The House has spoken, and President Trump must end it.

Trump's deeply unpopular war in Iran has cost the American people billions. But instead of letting the House vote to end the war, Republicans canceled the vote. Speaker Johnson can't prolong the inevitable and it is time Republicans face up to the reality that this war must end.

As a friend who served with Barney Frank from the Massachusetts House to the United States House, I saw up close Barney's commitment to the needs of the most needy. His legislative style encompassed skill, intellect, and, most importantly, pragmatism.

Whether he was on the national stage or advocating for his constituents here in the Commonwealth, Barney served our nation in an exemplary way. My thoughts are with Barney’s husband Jim, the Frank family, and his extensive network of friends and supporters.

I am proud to lead the Ukraine Support Act with Reps. Meeks and Hoyer. The Discharge petition on this legislation now has 218 signatures and sends a strong message to President Trump and Speaker Johnson that the majority of the House supports the US fulfilling our promises to Ukraine.

The Speaker must reconvene Congress so we can hold hearings and cast votes to reign in this out of control President and his actions, his words, and his illegal war of choice. My full statement:
The President’s statements about Iran are horrible, destabilizing, destructive, and clearly demonstrate that he is not only unqualified but also unfit for office. Threatening to destroy an entire civilization is obviously a war crime, and it should be condemned by all Americans, including my Republican colleagues in Congress.

But that’s not enough - the power enshrined in Congress by our Constitution is not the power to issue statements on social media, our power is to legislate and act as a check on the executive branch. We should be in Washington right now, and the only person stopping us from ending this extended recess and holding Donald Trump accountable is Speaker Mike Johnson.

The Speaker must reconvene Congress so we can hold hearings and cast votes to reign in this out of control President and his actions, his words, and his illegal war of choice.

I will be voting to cease hostilities with Iran. Full statement:
“Over the past six days I have sat in classified briefings regarding the President's unauthorized military action in Iran as a member of both the House Armed Services and Foreign Affairs Committees. I have spoken extensively with our diplomatic counterparts across the Atlantic. I have seen the economic impacts of this war on the American people in under a week. I have spoken with constituents trying to bring stranded family members home. And I have sat in quiet reflection over the lives lost and the families left behind. After gathering as much information as available regarding Donald Trump’s unauthorized and ill-prepared war of choice against Iran, I cannot support this war. Sending troops to war is the most consequential decision any elected official can make, and I reject the President's view that the lives already lost and additional casualties are simply 'the way it is.' I don’t think that’s the way it needs to be. I will be voting to cease hostilities with Iran.”

Tariffs are raising costs on American families and hurting small businesses throughout our region and around the US. Now, instead of doing their jobs and working to lower costs for the American people, the GOP is trying to block a vote on ending these tariffs in a show of loyalty to Trump.

The agents who were on the scene of Alex Pretti’s murder should be on leave, not out working in a different state. Here’s my letter to Sec. Noem, demanding that she follow DHS policy by removing these agents from the streets and guaranteeing their cooperation. Full letter: loom.ly/DCOhnoM
LETTER: Take Alex Pretti's Killers off the Streets

Pull quote from letter: “It is essential that any individual whose conduct is under formal review not be in a position to influence any ongoing investigation. Moreover, these individuals should not be exercising law enforcement authority until that investigation is concluded. When a life has been lost during federal law enforcement operations, the agency must be held to the highest possible standard of transparency and accountability.”

Watch the videos. Share them. Count the shots. It’s not easy to watch - and it shouldn’t be. But every American must understand what federal agents are doing in our names, and we must believe our eyes. My full statement in the image below (with alt text):
Watch the videos. Share them. Count the shots. It’s not easy to watch - and it shouldn’t be. But every American must understand what federal agents are doing in our names. Alex Pretti and Renee Good should be alive today. The statements by Trump officials are false on their face. Secretary Noem again labeled this victim as a terrorist. Steven Miller called him an assassin.

Believe your eyes. The videos clearly show the murder of a VA nurse who was observing ICE enforcement actions and happened to be legally carrying a weapon that he never pulled and had been taken from him before he was shot to death. That’s what the videos show.

As a former district attorney who has led investigations into police shootings, there needs to be a complete and thorough independent investigation without obstruction from DHS to determine exactly what happened. The federal agents responsible for this unjustified killing of another US citizen should be held criminally accountable to the full extent of the law if that is what the investigation concludes.

The Administration needs to reverse the surge of ICE in our cities, and my Republican counterparts need to grow a backbone. As the majority in full control of Congress, they have a Constitutional obligation to call for and conduct oversight hearings and shut this down.

Most importantly, my thoughts are with Alex Pretti’s family as they mourn the loss of a man who went to work every day to care for our veterans at the VA and was on the streets today because he cared about his neighbors.

We must remember January 6th for what it was - a violent attempt to overthrow the peaceful transfer of power - and not for what the President and his followers want us to believe.
Donald Trump called January 6, 2021 “a day of love” - but it was anything but. 1,500 were charged. 629 pleaded guilty, and another 127 were found guilty of charges related to their actions at the Capitol. The efforts of MAGA to rewrite history and downplay what happened that day are truly disgusting - from the President’s pardons of those who breached our Capitol to the Speaker’s ongoing refusal to display a plaque in honor of the law enforcement officers who they violently attacked. I will forever be grateful to the US Capitol Police and all of the law enforcement agencies involved in protecting democracy on that fateful day, and I continue to be grateful for the work they do every single day. We must remember January 6th for what it was - a violent attempt to overthrow the peaceful transfer of power - and not for what the President and his followers want us to believe.

The Trump Tariffs cost US families an average of more than $1,200 in 2025 even as small businesses work hard to absorb increases to minimize the impact on consumers. These tariffs are not being paid by foreign countries - they're being paid by all of us.

On 9/11, Denmark stood with the US. They lost 44 soldiers in Afghanistan - one of the highest per capita losses of any nation. This is The Who Donald Trump is disparaging - our NATO ally that answered the call. The future of Greenland is up to its people, not Stephen Miller and Donald Trump.

Donald Trump is no more the legitimate president of Venezuela than was Nicholas Maduro.
Make no mistake, this is one of the most eye opening days in US political history.

President Trump has just announced that he is taking control of the sovereign country of Venezuela until he feels fit to return it. He will install his Secretary of Defense, his Secretary of State, his and his Joint Chiefs Chairman to run the day to day operations. Additionally he is ordering US oil companies to enter Venezuela and take control of their energy industry. He personally will control billions of dollars that he has no right to access.

I am glad that we now have enough support in the House to pass a 3 year ACA tax credit extension under a discharge petition. But the 32,000 residents of Southeastern Massachusetts facing thousands of dollars in monthly premium increases cannot wait until Congress returns in the New Year to vote.
Speaker Johnson must schedule a vote ASAP - the healthcare of the people we represent is far more important than leaving DC early for the holidays.
