I hear that! and it's not really up to me to decide. I just don't think I 'did the work' per se to make it a horror story. but the genre's got range, for sure!

🧵 1/ In March, ICE arrested Carlos Moreno, a blind and partially deaf father of four as he was leaving court in Pottsville. He was there to pay a fine for a noise citation. The agents ripped him away from his pregnant wife, Wendys, without explanation, leaving her to prepare for birth alone.

I really see it on tiktok and reddit, where accounts take positions downstream from discourse, but never really break artists. (tho of course there are exceptions)

the numbers are grim, but I do think something that isn't captured is what might be called the periwinkle effect, where critics are shaping what listeners gravitate toward and find, but audiences don't know.

African pop was poised for a U.S. takeover. Can its stars finish the job?
The dam appeared to break in 2024, as South African phenom Tyla made Grammy and chart history. But for a wide field of buzzed-about voices, the path to a crossover has narrowed.

I wonder what role genre plays, because SFF, horror, and comics have pretty active communities here I suspect publishers, agents, and the like not being here is the biggest factor. (authors too tbh.) the industry is more financially and culturally invested in insta/tiktok/substack/goodreads

re: macklemore: most artists I can think of with roots in a spoken word scene have been very principled about gaza, ICE, climate, trans rights, etc that artistic community always being deeply grassroots and largely ignored by market forces probably has a lot to do with that
