I’m reading For Brown Girls with Sharp Edges and Tender Hearts and it’s so healing! I relate to so many of her experiences. This is a book I needed when I was in college. I’m glad it exists now.

Currently reading the Love Songs of W.E.B. Du Bois and it’s so good! The audiobook being 30 hours long almost stopped me from picking it up, but once I started, I was invested in the characters. Amazing writing!

If anyone’s looking for Pacific Islander book recs for the #transrightsreadathon I suggest Sascha Stronach’s books, The Dawnhounds and The Sunforge. It’s marketed as Gideon the Ninth meets Black Sun.
Book cover for The Dawnhounds by Sascha Stronach. In the background, there’s a ship on water. In the foreground, there’s buildings that are in the shape of mushrooms with stairs leading to arched doorways. Book cover for the Sunforge by Sascha Stronach. On the left is the ocean. On the right are mountains with buildings that are on fire. Three people are standing on top of a cliff overlooking the fire.

Journalists make great non-fiction authors. I just finished The Viral Underclass by Steven w. Thrasher and it was an amazing look at how the viruses like HIV and covid disproportionally affected marginalized groups of people, causing a viral underclass

Shared on IG. Thought I’d share here too. My review of the book, My Walk to Equality: Essays, Stories, and Poetry by Papua New Guinean Women edited by Rashmii Amoah Bell
My Walk to Equality: Essays, Stories, and Poetry by Papua New Guinean Women Edited by Rashmii Amoah Bell

This book is a beautiful insight into the lives, hopes, and frustrations of Papua New Guinean women. It includes essays, short stories, and poems about the issues PNG women face as well as celebrations of their accomplishments.

It’s such an important book. I was blown away by the emotional impact of the poems and stories and the edifying essays. Read with care as it does include instances of domestic violence.

Genre: Anthology
Age Group: Adult
Editor’s Ethnicity: Papua New GuineanFavorite Quote:

“The continued development and promotion of Papua New Guinean authored and published literature is imperative in the preservation of our nation’s history and progress.

The Papua New Guinean perspective is important, not only in our country but internationally, and must be present across all genres for all ages to read.”

I finished this book, Imagination: A Manifesto by Ruha Benjamin, last week and it was so amazing!! I highly recommend for people who are looking for hope. It‘s basically about how we have to first expand our imagination of a better society in order to create it. Favorite quotes in the thread below

In honor of Booktok, what is a book you found because of Booktok that ended up being a 5⭐️ read? One of my top reads last year was A Love Song for Ricki Wilde! So many booktok people were raving about it. It has gorgeous prose and is a tragically beautiful love story.
