Robin Wall Kimmerer’s “Gathering Moss” has definitely made me a bigger fan of mosses than I expected I would be by the end... Solid read! 📚 🌱

This poor, lil catbird HUCKED herself into our window the other day - but luckily after some TLC from us and a rest on our table, she flew off safe and sound!…

Fellow folk w/ Scottish ancestry: “The Anthology of Scottish Folktales, Volumes 1 & 2” (collected & edited by Donald Smith) are fascinating, fun reads! (For adults only, FYI). Several tales are in Scots, which is an enjoyable brain twister for non-native speakers. Do recommend! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 🧚‍♀️🦄🧌🌳🌲🪾🌊⛰️📚

Fellow mental healthcare workers: READ THIS STAT. This week happens to be my 16th work anniversary, and so I found Florie St. Aime’s book as incredibly timely, human, as well as equally validating and challenging (in the best way). Took me weeks to read because it deserves savoring. 10/10 ⭐️s! 🙏 📚

For fellow descendants of Celtic & Nordic ancestry, especially those interested in epigenetics or ancestor veneration work: check these two books out! Fascinating. 🧬 🤯 🌊 ⛰️ 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 🇮🇪 🇬🇧 🇳🇴 (P.S. special shout out others in maternal haplogroup “Ursula” 👋 😉 Remember though, we’re all cousins in the end. 🌍)

An overdue introduction! Meet our newest family member (and my frequent writing buddy/supervisor), our 10 month old kitty Lunaria Geilis - aka Luna. She’s been home for four months as of today, and we are beyond lucky & in love. 🐈‍⬛ 💜 🌙

Hey writers (new and new at heart!), looking to brush up on your grammar & line work? Consider “The Elements of Style” by EB White & William Strunk Jr, 4th edition. Despite how much practice, it’s normal to have a bit of ye old “writer’s drift” from time to time… 😉 Happy writing & editing! 📚 📖 ✍️

After a traumatic loss activates a dormant gene which manifests ancestral memories, a 22nd century, disabled archivist must decipher the scope of her history & grief—before the past she has discarded, and rising authoritarian threats in the present, decide the future for her. #QuestPit #W #A #U #S

Been getting a lot more into folklore lately, and figured going with The Epic of Gilgamesh (one of the oldest surviving myths we have) would be a good call. Turns out, yes! Super interesting, & I like this translation (which includes a great introduction, and a series of essays after the story). 📚

Ahhh this was so, so good!! Historian Sarah Clegg does it again with this fantastic lineage of not only myths but how they helped shape our modern day grapplings with gender & womanhood, healthcare, and human rights. Highly recommend. 📚

And last for today, more research: while published in ‘15 it’s still rather good. Whether you’re interested in learning more about early eastern-American psych/sociology (which is eerily relevant to current events…), if you love witchy history, or ye just want a good read: pick this one up. 📚

Some book research: this 19th century work (printed posthumously after the author’s death, following an illness) is an interesting dive into how some of that time’s (largely Christian) Scots collected & understood their ancient folklore and, especially, witchcraft. A curious read, indeed! 📚

This one is a reread but it that still holds up: Madeline Miller’s “Circe”. Love how each of the characters’ feels grounded & relatable without dulling any of the magic of the story - and the prose is delightful. So, so good. 📚

Next one I LOVED is Allyson Shaw’s “Ashes & Stones”: an absolute recommend - esp. as a witchy person of Scottish descent, & a fellow chronically ill/disabled (amateur) author, the weaving of history with Shaw’s lived experiences was a honest, rich tapestry I will be keeping sacred on my shelf. 📚

I’m savoring the creative rest - and, keep seeing reminders of my book! Stumbled on this lil hero outside our apartment, which reminds me of the Celtic proverb: “Ar scáth a chéile a mhaireann na daoine”/“We all live in the shelter of each other.” Wishing you all are well and taking good care. 💜

🧵 1/4: Something’s taking shape. It began with a question I couldn’t stop circling, and turned into a story that had to be written. Now it’s a novel (or the beginnings of one) woven from memory, broken time, and the people who carry them...
