Here in Grand Rapids for a gubernatorial debate between Jocelyn Benson and John James. Keep an eye here for updates as both candidates answer questions from WOOD TV (and yes, the press are being kept in a giant tent).

These graphics show just a small fragment of the journey that someone in ICE detention experiences — the number of times someone is transferred between facilities, where those facilities are, the outcome of their case and, for those who end up deported, where they are sent.

The Michigan Education Association, who declined to make an endorsement in the gubernatorial race prior to the primary, have officially thrown their support behind Jocelyn Benson in her general election bid against John James.

Possibly worth noting that James is leading in every county with returns so far, with the exception of Wexford County, where Johnson currently has a lead of one single vote.

Early (and I cannot emphasize enough, VERY early) results show James up with a significant lead over Johnson. Mike Cox and Aric Nesbitt are still on the ballot, despite both dropping out. Cox dropped out well into the absentee voting period and right now has double-digit support.

And here’s John James HQ - the election night party began at 8, just about 10 minutes down the road from Perry’s.

Michigan House Republicans yesterday disapproved around $645 million in work project spending. Dems decried the process as untransparent and frustrations were obvious — see Rep. Samantha Steckloff's reaction to the vote, which occurred with no debate. Read here: michiganadvance.com/2025/12/10/m...

Over a half hour before the official start, the crowds in Lansing are already here. Some very creative displays and signs are here! @michiganadvance.com @statesnewsroom.com

Spent this morning at the Michigan Hall of Justice (my first time there!) covering a novel case in the Court of Appeals on the habeas corpus rights of seven chimpanzees currently at a zoo on the Upper Peninsula. They're seeking an order to show cause, which would let the case be heard fully.
