Elisabet apparently wants to be our next guest.
A grey tabby cat who is admittedly adorable shooting me side-eye while blocking my view of a computer monitor that has riverside open, because we're about to do a recording. Not of her.

I woke up to discover a gift from a friend in my Steam inventory. This was her note. The last time she left me such an instruction the game was Blue Prince lol so now I'm wondering what I'm in for. (This one is The Incident at Galley House.)

These clearly AI-generated emails have been driving me nuts for a while, because I can't search my inbox, but also: replacements of the various oils and greases I need for my French horn are absolutely not "automotive" in any possible way

Right. I think of Lego as *this*. (Helped admittedly by being a kid who looked *a lot* like this, braids and all, and was born around the time of this ad haha)
The early 1980s Lego print ad showing a 3-4-year-old red-haired girl, hair braided, in jeans and a T-shirt, holding some kind of super chaotic kid Lego sculpture, with the tagline, "What it is is beautiful."

Iceland is almost infuriatingly picturesque. Today we go chasing waterfalls, though the songs of my youth warned me not to.

I dunno how I ended up at the top of this one lol but I hope wherever he is, that extremely Boston gentleman is doing well. www.theverge.com/entertainmen...
I was in high school when the Star Wars movies had their big 20th anniversary rereleases, and I was a huge Star Wars fan. (Got there through the music; it’s John Williams’ fault I’m a horn player.)

The nearest multiplex to my house was the Fresh Pond theater in Cambridge, MA — right off the Alewife end of the red line. We all settled into the dark with our popcorn, the famous blue text appeared on screen, and a man down in the front shouted along, in the most Boston accent you can possibly imagine: “A LAWNG TIME AGO IN A GALAXY FAH, FAH AWAY!!!”

The entire theater completely lost it, as one, cracking up entirely, and after that it was a very cool, very congenial, very unified group enjoying the movie

Finished that second playthrough of Clair Obscur I started months ago. That game is so damn pretty, let us not discuss how many hours I spent just lining up amazing shots in photo mode. And then sometimes you get lucky and your kids make you pause the game at *just* the right moment.

Louder for the people in the back. www.theverge.com/podcast/9207...
"The producers and I will not give anyone the questions that they’re going to face on Decoder in advance. We will not let them tell us what topics they want to cover. We will not accept edits afterwards or approvals on answers afterwards. You have to show up, you have to do a good job, and sometimes you can do a bad job, and everybody can see it.

I also think a lot of people are very confused by influencer media where those asks are tied to brand deals, integrations, and money made down the line, and there are approvals, but we just don’t do it. Sometimes people think they can pressure us, and our response to pressure is to turn it right back around."

Guybrush was the best bro, a great cat, and no one can replace him. But. Our whole family felt the house was far too empty without cats and so this week we expanded by two. Introducing Elisabet (Lisbet, Liz, Bets), 17 mos., and Aloy, 7 mos. Right now they mostly live behind the dryer lol.

Oh, you mean this part?
If it’s not about security, why is the Trump administration doing this?

The stated goal of Trump’s isolationist policies is to bring back US manufacturing, create US jobs, and use that independence to ensure the US can make things — if, say, China invades Taiwan and severs the entire tech supply chain that relies on Taiwanese chips.

But practically, this looks a lot more like the latest shakedown. The Trump administration has repeatedly used nebulous national security claims to extract tariffs, personal flattery, and billions of dollars in fees, and this feels like the latest attempt at Gangster Tech Regulation that uses xenophobia as a cudgel. Remember when a ban on Nvidia selling AI chips to China was about national security, yet later Trump approved those sales for 15 percent now 25 percent of the proceeds?

This is true, btw. We were in a puddle. But also, if taste were rules-based my job would be much easier. 😂 Learning to have compatible work vibes takes a long time, and I think -- as someone who was an admin in her earliest career -- that devaluing this labor is biting everyone in the posterior.
Shishir Mehrotra: Actually, can a creative [writing LLM] work?

Nilay Patel: I’m asking because I don’t think taste is rules-based. Our producers are in the background here just in a puddle, because part of their job every week is to try to write like me. They get a lot of feedback from me directly on that. I’m literally editing the documents so I can read the intros and outros and I’m changing the questions. And it’s really hard even when it’s just three people who have spent years working together to try to get to an output that works. And they’re really good.

So on Feb 18. we scheduled a recording to take place Mar 20, as we do. And then, between booking and recording, **some stuff** SURE DID HAPPEN. Huge props to the team who managed to get this ready over the weekend while I was faffing about at Masquerade.
Nilay Patel: How many people work at Superhuman?

Shishir Mehrotra: About 1,500.

NP: So out of 1,500 people, how many people decided to launch this feature?

SM: It was a small team. It was probably a product manager and a couple engineers.
NP: Inside your decision-making process where you described a way of making sure you solicited the right feedback and then have groupthink, it never came up that using people’s names without permission would make them mad?
