So very ashamed of the immigration policies of the US and Panama right now. Mass deportations, unlawful detentions, and rampant violations of human rights. Wish I could say I was surprised but a scapegoating of non-European migrants and their descendants has for too long united both countries.

I’m teaching about marronnage (escaping from slavery and creating independent free communities) and the Haitian Revolution this week. The work of Crystal Eddins, Michel-Rolph Trouillot, and the Egalite for All documentary are front and center. There is no history of the modern world without Haiti!
