Once in a while I head over to the bad place to see what’s going on over there and it’s just people dunking on each other interspersed with random bigotry (against pretty much everyone).

Thank you. As soon as I saw “lawfare” I knew it was going to be garbage but good to know how bad!

This is not surprising. The tech bros have amassed wealth exceeding many nation states. The end game of creating their own kingdom's where they can live out their anarcho-capitalist fantasies seems like the next step for them.

There are over four times as many polling places as there are ICE agents (~95,000 polling places v. ~22,000 ICE agents.) This is not a real issue and acting like ICE is a threat to our elections has a larger chance to suppress voting that ICE actually does. www.brennancenter.org/our-work/res...

While that might sound good to some, it's a terrible idea. You would encourage corruption even more and make it so that only those who with means can afford to be in the legislature.

The rich would create "real schools" to supplement public school. They would defund schools even more than they do now. They would push for 3 hour school days and then fund the creation of private "tutoring centers" that would be designed to circumvent any tax or prohibition on private schools.

FE Avatar @kcirrot.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
That just means you'll have schools within schools and not all the same quality. There are very large public high schools (3-5K students) now that are effectively multiple high schools in one building. My son's HS (he's in college now) had 5 different programs in the same building.

It's a site that allows people to talk to others in their neighborhood. In theory, the idea is to talk about hyper local events and issues. In practice, it's a place where people share their irrational fears of the teenage Black kid walking down the street or the homeless guy asking for change.

Reasonable term limits protect democracy. The longer someone holds office the harder it is to dislodge them and the harder they hold on to power. Mitch McConnell is the best example of this. Term limits shouldn't be too short but they should eventually allow other to take power.

Paxton has been an enthusiastic opponent of trans rights. Are you suggesting that it’s better that Paxton wins? Don’t deflect the impact of that. Talarico is going to be fine if he loses. Trans people will also have gained a fierce enemy in the Senate.

FE Avatar @kcirrot.bsky.social · 14/09/2026
OK, fair. So you're hoping someone who enthusiastically wants to destroy trans people wins because Talarico said the wrong thing (He was wrong) about trans kids in sports. www.advocate.com/politics/nat...

Let's say he doesn't and Paxton is elected. You're acting like that doesn't cause harm to anyone but Talarico. Say it plainly. If you think Paxton should win, with all the consequences for our country that entails, then say so.

FE Avatar @kcirrot.bsky.social · 14/09/2026
Assuming Talarico doesn't recant his statement, are you suggesting that voters should withhold their vote and allow Paxton to win?
100
FE Avatar @kcirrot.bsky.social · 14/09/2026
The question now is do you want Ken Paxton, a criminal that will gleefully cause harm to trans people to win. Even if you think Talarico will be bad (and he may be), he will not be worse than Paxton.

Let's say there are only two candidates and they have EXACTLY the same view on a moral issue that I disagree with. Also assume I agree with one of the candidates on almost everything else. Finally, the other candidate actively opposes nearly everything I care about. What are you suggesting I do?

FE Avatar @kcirrot.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
We don’t have to anymore. But my grandparents did. Listen, I genuinely want my trans brothers and sisters to be safe in this country. You’re choosing between someone being tepid about sports and someone who wants to destroy you for existing. I don’t know what else needs to be said.

I say this with love. Black people have worked for CENTURIES to be treated like full citizens of this country and we still vote for a party that often lets us down. We do so because the alternative is obviously worse.

They are running out of money and need a narrative to justify slowing down on training and developing new models. There are plenty of folks chasing down this story. Ed Zitron, the Tech Report, and many other independent journalists report on this near daily.

The post WWII rules based order largely enforced by the USA kept the peace for decades. That's why we keep a ridiculously large military. It's why we intervene all over the world. The USA doesn't always do it well or for the right reasons, but looking inward only never works out long term.

What if we did that for public schools and public colleges? Means testing a program means that most people have no stake in the program and will happily see it ended on a promise of "lower taxes" (that never come). If everyone benefits from the service, it will have a broader base of support.

I'm sure he'll try. But there aren't enough personnel to stand at thousands of polling places or even the ones that are mostly Democratic voters. The mail ballots are probably the most at risk, but there's just no way to take control of such a decentralized system in 90 days.
