Fascinated & moved by viral footage of Parisian lycéens singing Charles Aznavour's "Emmenez-moi." Classic chanson of their grandparents' era—a hit in '68, no less—about working-class drudgery/dreams of escape, whose implicit politics these kids are making them explicit, in real time, in the street

Can we be honest that so called 'wokeness' meant Black people demanding full social personhood and refusing to be silent about getting murdered/harmed by the state? So yes, that is more threatening to many in this country than is fascism. I think that's been clear.

There’s no A.I. “literacy”. There is only power, to either rebuild or eradicate commonly shared knowledge production. They haz it. Remains to be seen if we haz some too.

The “literacies“ framework is as intellectually bankrupt as polarization right now. We will keep using it because when you’ve got one hammer and the NSF social science funding has dried up everything looks like a nostalgic managerial class nail.

This resonates so beautifully with what Michael Barkun called "stigmatized knowledge"--the way bodies of information that have been disdained by experts actually *gain* power in the mind of the conspiracy theorist. Not talked about enough in our understandings of the epidemiology of knowledge, imo

we are watching a massive transfer of wealth during an era of massive wealth creation (however much it might be just paper money it’s powerful) — reinscribing gender during this moment is a choice about who will be a citizen for the next three hundred years.

It seems clear that a biiiig chunk of the failure here (as it so often is) lies with the police (campus in this case, but absolutely no reason to assume a non-campus jurisdiction would do better) and the local DA. But the Cornell Sun's editorial raises vry good questions re: intl university process.

Tbh Catholic phenomenology had a renaissance in the 2000s/2010s so it is kind of no surprise that the Pope has a more robust philosophical account of AI than tech bros do, sounds like he is working from that tradition…

TL;DR: ‘teaching men not to rape’ will be much harder if you don’t first teach kids not to bully, and more generally if you don’t deal with the fact that the foundation of current iterations of masculinity is violence against those it renders vulnerable but not defensible.

When they get back in power, Democrats need to go all-in on higher education. We need a campaign of reinvestment in public universities across the country that makes the Morrill Land-Grant Act look like nothing by comparison *and* a GI Bill of Rights-style program of tuition grants.
