Ruby leans in through a cobweb-laden door, looking apologetic as she carries the tea tray in.
RUBY: Sorry for the wait...!

Queen Theta is sitting on a bed that seems very large and canopied, with webs hunt in the corners. Atlas and Fly, her henchmen, are both sitting on the floor near her, and all of them have a hand of cards. Theta looks up to Ruby with interest, one brow arched.
THETA: No worry - I heard his barking. How'd telling him off go? Like we practiced...?

Ruby is crouching at the foot of the bed looking distressed more than relieved. Theta reaches out with a hand to pat Ruby's shoulder reassuringly, as Atlas takes the tea tray.
RUBY: It went badly...
THETA: He didn't listen...?
RUBY: No, they LISTENED, just...yelling at people feels BAD!

Theta rolls her eyes as she takes a cup of tea, as does Ruby, as she looks up at her, still looking concerned.
THETA: Can't relate.
RUBY: Does it get EASIER...?
THETA: You're setting boundaries. It's HEALTHY.

Theta shrugs her shoulders, brushing the topic off slightly. Ruby is lifting one sugar cube up over her cup somewhat forlornly to drop it in, while Fly looks greedily at the tea that Atlas is pouring into the sugar bowl that he has selected at his teacup, still full of sugar.
THETA: Least I can do in exchange for not being stuck in a pile of rocks and spores during this storm is grow you a backbone.

Hello, I am once again thinking about: the setting and the possibilities, and yes, FFVII is here, again, because that's also, I think, a setting that actually has a lot going on in its world. Also wondering if these three games are why I prefer an Active Cast/Party of 3-4...

A Cacophonous Cryptist Dathu dressed in space pirate finery casually removes triangular gold and pink sunglasses. A symbol for the Polaris Society is behind them.

Xante's been drawn as a Bitling, before, but that wasn't QUITE right. And, while the close parallel with Nilari and Drow is right there, I feel like letting them be a full creature of a species like the Dathu justifies the Intimidation Expertise they have. I feel like they are employed BY the Polaris society, and are constantly circling a position finally INSIDE it, one day - a little bit like John Leguizamo's character in Land Of The Dead.

CRIMSONHEART: Maybe it'd be better if these came from YOU. Prince Index sent Ruby some letters. I gotta check on something important.
REEVES: Of course...

Reeves squints, now alone in the mail room, as he discreetly drops the letters into the waste bin.

Crimsonheart is peering under the bed he sleeps in - usually as Victor - at Clouwn, who is shivering.
CRIMSONHEART: THERE'S my best pal! You doin' okay?
CLOUWN: I've been hiding down here the WHOLE TIME!

Ruby looks back over her shoulder as she goes up the castle's inner spire to see that she's not being followed.

Ruby traipses across a wooden beam, that's set up in a higher area of the castle that looks a little bashed up, with signs of unfinished construction - there's a sign that reads, "CAUTION: KING'S SUITE UNDERGOING REPAIRS" that has a taped on additions that say, "CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE" and "NO ACCESS"

I love Epic Save The World stories and I know everyone wants to get their cool Level 20 Capstone Ability and playing a radical Power Fantasy but even as much as I love DBZ, the story never was more interesting just because the power levels were higher.

RUBY: NO! I DON'T want to talk about it right now! I KNOW you have something to do with the storm! Librina, I know you feel obligated to HELP, but...he CAN'T just keep dashing off with no word! I didn't teach you to pilot the zeppelin so he can run off to play hero outside our jurisdiction!

Inside of the castle, Ruby is turned away, balancing a large tea tray with several cups as she steps away from a grumpy-looking Crimsonheart, flanked by a more fittingly contrite Librina and Reeves. Crimsonheart tries to speak aside to Reeves, who looks back at him anxiously. Ruby can clearly hear him, as her eyes widen in anger.
CRIMSONHEART: What got into HER?

Ruby sharply turns to shout at Crimsonheart, again, sardonic, angry, defiant; maybe even a bit bratty.
RUBY: NOW you want to ask questions! I'm FINE going one more night without you telling me ANYthing.

Ruby still hoists the tea tray more gracefully, turning up her nose as she walks away.
RUBY: Just leave me alone until I FEEL like hearing about your adventures!

Librina looks up with a bit of worry, while Crimsonheart pats her shoulder. Reeves looks to one side with a bit of a guilty face.
CRIMSONHEART: Don't worry, Librina - you didn't do ANYTHING wrong.
LIBRINA: No, just...all that tea for herself...?

And we close this week's #webcomic update on a very slimy evening in Shadowmurk. liegedoomveil.thecomicseries.com

Back in the underground, a strange eyeless monster is scaling the exterior wall of Shadowmurk's castle with a clattering, clicking shriek - it's showing signs of having already been damaged in battle, deep green sludge emerging from the slashes upon it.

Liege makes a leaping slash at the creature, decapitating it with one of the larger swords from his armory with a clean slash. Liege is also battle damaged, the jacket from his date in tatters and one sleeve torn off.

The slain beast's neck erupts in a geyser of goopy green sludge as it slumps onto the wall. Liege is caught in the spray, wincing to one side.

Liege is rejoined by Alkamilla as he tries to wipe some of the sludge off of himself; they both look varyingly scuffed or smeared from the carnage of a fight. Liege looks tired, but relieved, as Alkamilla is mildly irritated, re-examining how grimy and injured their current state is.
LIEGE: That was the last.
ALKAMILLA: Every time it storms...

Ominous appears apologetically along the walkway, as Liege and Alkamilla approach through a line of soldiers, who bow in appreciation in their ranks. Liege looks to be simultaneously surprised and disappointed, while Alkamilla looks exhausted.
OMINOUS: My lord, water rationing has been implemented until the flood recedes.

The horde of murk worms is shuffled as Harbinger rears up and forces his way to the forefront of them. Liege seems overwhelmed with joy and relief upon seeing him, as Ominous looks on.
LIEGE: THERE you are!
OMINOUS: Would you prefer we evict the rest of these impertinent invertebrates, sire?

Liege closes his eyes, hoisting Harbinger up over his shoulders in a very right hug. Ominous eyes Liege carefully, as one of the smaller murk worm invaders bites at his shawl.
LIEGE: No.
OMINOUS: We don't have the infrastructure to keep ALL of them.
LIEGE: Nyeh -- FINE. Seal off the sub-basements.

In Libraria, Crimsonheart is dropping off Index, the storm still raging on. An angry crowed of cloaked mages and Glossary look on from the doorway.
INDEX: You're sure you'll make it home in all this?
CRIMSONHEART: I need to keep the castle safe!

Crimsonheart shrugs, not seeming to take this too seriously, as Index reaches towards his satchel again.
CRIMSONHEART: Sorry about what happened with Sandra.
INDEX: Ah, well...speaking of princesses...

Index is holding out a few envelopes, with Librina reaching out to accept them.

GRIME: I...can't feel my legs...

Grime is revealed to be in about 5 mismatched, overflowing buckets in the back of a tank with an Elite Squadron guard. Grime sinks back into the original bucket with relief.
ELITE GUARD: They're in the OTHER buckets, general.
GRIME: Oh, phew...

In Shadowmurk, there is water slowly rising towards the castle. Streams of water pour down, among strange purple mist, which almost makes Shadowmurk look like an underground version of Vermillion's waterfalls and clouds. The Royal Murk Tank is pushing its way through to the castle.

Liege looks lightly frizzled with static electricity, marching with his glaive over his shoulders - Grime is in buckets that are hung from the glaive's blades. Alkamilla is looking frustrated, carrying another bucket and handing it to a soldier.
ALKAMILLA: Get him reconstituted.

Ominous is striding out, carefully lifting his robe as Murk Worms of various sizes are along the ground, crowding Liege's boots. Liege braces himself as soldiers take the buckets from him.
LIEGE: Have they come, yet?
OMINOUS: The water levels are rising more slowly than we'd projected.

There's almost too much to take in a brief read in Neon Odyssey, and while they have everything more than covered for Stardust Rhapsody's setting, I think they are bringing so many huge ideas that make other adjacent settings and their feel SUPER possible for the 5.5e system.

SANDRA: I'm banishing you both.

Sandra is staring down Crimsonheart, Prince Index and Librina, who also appear heavily rained on, just outside a doorway of the castle, as they stand out in the storm, rain pouring down. Index's glasses have a crack in one lens.
CRIMSONHEART: It was an accident--
SANDRA: This all feels FAR beyond the limitations of the Great Treaty OR the Open Heart Accord.

Prince Index rolls his eyes behind Crimsonheart. Princess Sandra looks at Index from the doorway, smiling in a way that doesn't reach her eyes.
INDEX: I'd be surprised if YOU'VE read a treaty...

SANDRA: Are you CRAZY? Unleashing a storm right by my DOCKS?!

Crimsonheart braces Index by the shoulder, but in jostling him to do so, Index's gloved hands lose grip on the orb, sending it on a trajectory for the floor.
CRIMSONHEART: We don't have a moment to lose! Those worms are slippery!
INDEX: oopsie daisy

The orb shatters with a great electric charge, buffeting those in the Evertides castle with wind and clouds.

A roaring gale spirals out as lightning and storm clouds begin to pour out of the Evertides Castle, lightning striking in a way that narrowly avoids the Royal Murk Tank making a get-away as thunder bellows.

Inside the murk tank, Liege and Alkamilla struggle, but manage to stay braced against the controls, while Grime sloshes about, the tank clearly at a strange angle.
ALKAMILLA: You just HAD to call attention to us
LIEGE: I was CORRECT to SHAME him!

Crimsonheart punches Count Baron, knocking him back.

Sandra angrily gestures at Crimsonheart, who slouches with a sense of frustration more than remorse.
SANDRA: That was my DUKE! Again!
CRIMSONHEART: Aw, nuts...

Sandra frowns at Crimsonheart as he turns towards Index and Librina as they run up. Index is pulling his satchel around one shoulder, rummaging inside it.

Index triumphantly pulls out an orb that we've seen before in his chamber in Libraria - it contains a cloud, swirling, and a lightning bolt crackling. Sandra looks at him with annoyance.

it turns out that Foundry didn't include the Brutal Critical die, which brought it to a total of 💪67💪

some actions taken in a VTT, where a character named Go Cotija makes a critical hit with a weapon named Rob Halberd, for a nat 20 total of 32. The Critical Damage is numerated as 6d10+2d6+11 for a total of 58.

Gonna keep doing this in a thread as I draw more stuff - the party cured King Zareth of a nasty poison they're hoping to have studied, but we stopped en route to the researcher's tower RIGHT before a combat encounter with the Ogre and Ogrillon!
