And unrelated to anything in particular: I've realized over the years just how gross FOMO is. It is better to have people miss you than it is to have them resent your presence (or you theirs, or yourself for being there when you really don't want to).

It also sucks when you sense the vibes are off, but can't really pinpoint exactly why you don't like a person/place/thing/experience, you just know that you're right about it and there's no explaining it until long after you've separated yourself when others finally realize you weren't crazy.

Superior pattern recognition is a blessing and a curse. Being able to notice the subtle vibes shift before anyone else does allows for self preservation, while also prematurely sapping the joy of experiencing a thing. New opportunities I guess, but damn: this ALWAYS happens. Dip before it gets good.

So I don't understand toxic sports rivalry things among fans. I don't get it. Fun chirping in good faith is one thing. Being so toxic that you can't watch a game in a social setting for fear of upsetting someone is something else entirely..

Maybe it's just me, but I think it might have been a bad idea to tell jocks in high school "Don't be mean to the nerds, they'll be your boss one day" was a bad idea. The jocks are now the bosses and are more cruel than ever, while the nerds mostly just want to be left alone.
