Happy Sunday! January is a month of reflection and excitement for new growth, setting new goals to achieve, and to choose to arise to new challenges. If your month hasn’t gone according to plan, don’t worry. It still a whole year to accomplish your goals, start new habits, and strengthen your faith.

I’ll be sharing some writings in my notebook today, starting with this one.

Doctrine and Covenants 98:13-14:
And whoso layeth down his life in my cause, for my name’s sake, shall find it again, even life eternal.
Therefore, be not afraid of your enemies, for I have decreed in my heart, saith the Lord, that I will prove you in all things, whether you will abide in my covenant, even unto death, that you may be found worthy.

Last week I made a post on Substack for my newsletter. This was one of the drawings I made learning from a few picture books from the 1950s. The original had stereotypical looking natives, I wanted to make an attempt to draw them differently #kidlitart #childrensbook #kidlitartist #dtiys #trains

Summer is a great time to read the classics, like L. Frank Baum. I had a lot of fun making this illustration, especially the Cowardly Lion. #wizardofoz #kidlitart #kidlitartist #childrensbook #illustration #illustrator #lion #characterdesign

An illustration of Dorothy, Tinman, and Scarecrow meeting the Cowardly Lion, who is covering his eyes and crying like a decorative outdoor fountain and blocking their path on the yellow brick road. Tinman looks surprised, Scarecrow looks confused, and Dorothy looks concerned while holding her dog Toto who is grrrr-ing.

Kayleen Sokol @kayleensokolart.bsky.social · 10/07/2025

This I made inspired by a word prompt art challenge: “traveling necromancer” I did the lettering by hand, it was fun to make letters look like old west style typography #dndcharacter #tiefling #dndcomic #comic #western #cowboy

An orange mustachioed tiefling dressed like an old west traveling salesman is holding a purple potion and leaning against a horse-drawn wagon that reads: “YE OLE TRAVELING NECROMANCER” and above the tiefling’s head is a speech bubble that asks, “Do you have UN-life insurance?”
