The first meeting 😍 #WIPSnips #WriteSky #AmWriting #TimeTravel
‘Hmmm…This tastes bloody good. You should also try this rice with the prawn curry,’ Nikhil continued.
‘Yeah, I’ll try that next,’ Maya responded. Her heartbeats were racing as Nikhil kept gazing hard into her eyes, as if he was smitten by her.

The paragraph that appears before the sentence that serves as the interval block of BID TIME A GOODBYE 😎 #WIPSnips #WriteSky #AmWriting #TimeTravel
‘No! No… no… NEVER! I can’t understand. I fucking can’t understand how this happened,’ Maya muttered, feeling the urge to lunge at the pictures, pull them off the wall, and throw them far away into the sea so they – and the stories they told – would not exist. She couldn’t bridge the connection at that moment – the events in her life that would have led to THIS. She could feel her legs turning to jelly, so she backed away from the wall and slumped down on the bed, exhausted.

I don't know, I always laugh when reading this conversation between Maya and Nikhil 😂 #SundaySnips #WriteSky #AmWriting #TimeTravel
Nikhil shook his head, still stuck partly in disbelief. ‘Whatever, it is quite eerie. Imagine getting stranded in the past because you didn’t hold your partner’s hand while time-travelling to the present. Horrendous!’

Day 23 of #TimeTravelAuthors She looked at the time on her digital watch – 11:10 AM. She typed the same time and waited for something to happen. Another screen popped up, asking her to stand still and look into the tiny camera fixed on top of the panel. #WriteSky #AmWriting #WritingCommunity

Daring to post something as sneaky as this 🧐 #WIPSnips #WriteSky #AmWriting #TimeTravel
There had never been any plane sightings during the previous memorial services. So, the appearance of this plane was like a signal from a higher power. The praying people watched the plane drift towards the sea and then they shifted their attention back to whatever was happening on the ground.

Is the Government hiding something? 🧐 #WIPSnips #WriteSky #AmWriting #TimeTravel
‘Maybe. But I’m working for the Government, Maya. I have keenly watched all of their moves. Nothing seems to be amiss. There is no foul-play or political subterfuge. The search teams – both government and private parties – are baffled. We have to respect the effort they have already put in, Maya, and accept the truth. The plane just…vanished,’ Krishnamurthy’s voice cracked a bit at the end.

Day 9 of #TimeTravelAuthors Maya blew him a kiss, and Nikhil returned it with an eager ease that made her laugh. After hanging up, Maya suddenly felt heavy at heart. It was such an abrupt shift that surprised her. She realised she missed Nikhil too much, but that was not the only reason.

Maya’s eyes welled up with tears. She sniffed a bit and looked around to see if anyone had seen them together or eavesdropped on their conversation. But the night was silent, the garden swallowing all their secrets. Only the crickets chirped. And Maya’s heart was weighed down with a thousand memories. This time, she would surely travel back in time to revisit them. But not using Vaqt.

The soup bowl in Maya’s hands slipped and fell to the floor with a clang. Thankfully, it was made of steel and not glass or ceramic one.
‘What – What are you talking about? That cannot be true!’ Maya didn’t realise that she was yelling.

What's that blue? 👀 #SundaySnips #WriteSky #AmWriting #TimeTravel
The window was no longer looking over Chennai’s landscape. She drew a sharp breath in.
All she could see now was a vast expanse of blue, a shade that was unnatural. It was as if the plane had abruptly flown into a makeshift otherworldly CG set. Did the sea really look this blue usually?

Every other instance of 'panic' in this book is a spoiler 🤭 #WIPSnips #WriteSky #AmWriting #TimeTrave
‘What is what?’ Leela thought. She turned around to see her co-passengers – a surprising number of them seemed to have paid attention to the announcement – whispering amongst themselves. It was clear that they had heard the panic in the pilot’s voice before the mic was switched off. Leela then swiftly turned around to look outside the window, wanting to find the balance.

After she and Nikhil had changed into the first outfit and appeared at the shooting spot, Nikhil acknowledged her with a teasing smile that hinted something she couldn’t discern. She felt exposed in her wine-coloured off-shoulder gown that revealed her cleavage tastefully. Nikhil’s gaze roved over her, as if drinking in the whole image of her to ingrain in his brain.
‘Oh fuck! Don’t look at me like that. I’ll become jelly.’

Happy Poet's Day to all poets here! ❤️ #KJDreamyPoet #Poetry #PoetrySky
WHY I'M A POET

You project a shiny outer world.

You live in it wearing masks of coolness.

Or of plastic joy. Or of deep contentment.

You journey through the blackhole of home to work to home to work to home.

You raise your kid in the way you think is right.

You might have a passion or two for the smiles, applauses, and praises.

But then, what about your inner world? Which oscillates between periods of crumbling, secretive happiness, and total devastation.

How would you lull it so that it doesn't lose its equilibrium?

How would you save it so that it saves you back?

That's when words arrive with their sweet cadence.

These poems are the pillars of your inner world.

They know who you truly are.

You spill your desires and secrets into a goblet of metaphors.

If words born from me carry my truth in their womb, then I'm sure I'm a poet.

These lines are my personal favourite ❤️ #WIPSnips #WriteSky #AmWriting #TimeTravel
‘Time! To hell with Time! Time has ruined my life. Just because I meddled with it a bit, it has meddled with my whole existence and altered every facet of my reality. If I ever meet the embodiment of Time, I will destroy it once and for all. Let the world run non-linearly. Let lives overlap. Let everything happen at once! I don’t care anymore!’

Would you press a button on a strange device? 😏 #WIPSnips #WriteSky #AmWriting #TimeTravel
‘I – I believe you, Jess. But I have a doubt. The time machines in movies are huge ones. How come this is so compact?’ asked Maya, turning the device in her hand and checking out its sides. She even noticed an ultramarine-blue button on one of its sides, but she felt scared to press it.

Jessica then placed the device on Maya’s outstretched palm. Maya gazed at it in awe for a moment, feeling as though she was holding the very essence of life within her grasp. She thanked Jessica profusely, and the scientist simply waved it off with a genial smile. Eventually, Maya left the lab, holding the treasure that was going to change her life in ways she never could have thought possible.

Immediately, Present-Maya knew that she had chosen the wrong date. She had carried the doom and gloom of her present to the past, too. Strangely, even this seemed indicative of something bad about to happen. And though she had already lived through it, Maya felt a chill in her stomach.

Chronolosis makes its way again 🤧 #WIPSnips #WriteSky #AmWriting #TimeTravel
Maya felt winded with every question she asked, realising just how much she had never known clearly before attempting this dangerous thing repeatedly and taking along Nikhil for rides, too. More importantly, she was astonished that Jessica was hiding something important about the rules of time travel and keeping Maya in the dark all these months.

‘I thought about it a lot, Maya,’ Anuj said. ‘It’s not just about my mom. It’s about us. Look at us. We are poles apart in almost everything. You can never mould yourself according to my wishes, and I cannot change myself to match yours either. Is it any good, Maya? Our relationship? Are we being true to ourselves right now?’

Miss those pandemic evenings when I went to the terrace every evening to watch the sunset over the horizon with my daughter. Now I don't even remember the last time I watched a sunset. #WIPSnips #WriteSky #AmWriting #TimeTravel
October 28th, 2020
The sun was setting, casting a dull glow over the horizon before dipping into the greyish-blue sea below. Maya stood on her balcony and watched the sunset, feeling strangely reflective. She had missed thousands of sunsets because of her busy schedule. But now that she was not working, she could finally spend time with nature. Her last trip to the past had drained her emotionally, and she had refrained from using Vaqt for about three weeks now.

‘It was not that direct. I suffered too, Nikhil. But it was easier for me now, maybe because I went through my heartbreak two years ago… that is not fresh like yours. I was well over Anuj by the time we met, and I was able to think clearly about us. It was overwhelming for me, too, to feel all these intense things. I…I actually was very close to consulting a psychic about whether I had truly found my twin flame, and I knew deep down that I had. But now that you have reciprocated, I’m not gonna go down that path. Twin flames or not, we are going to stay together. Forever. Okay?’ Maya explained as she put her arms around his neck.

After what seemed to be an eternity, Maya disengaged from Nikhil and looked at the sea. Everyone around her looked stunned, watching the wreckage float on the mighty ocean. Maya’s heart thudded mercilessly and her lips trembled in the shock. Nikhil slowly put an arm around her shoulder and pulled her closer.

As anyone in publishing will tell you, women do not resist reading books by men, but men will often dismiss books by women. This is not a publishing problem or a failure to target men. It's a misogyny problem.

Nikhil pressed his forehead to hers and spoke in a raspy whisper. ‘I’m still terrified, Maya. This feels too divine to end in pain. I can’t handle heartbreaks or things going sour with you. I sit on a stone slab in the platform where I had been walking, staring at the passengers going about. Compared to what this station would eventually become, it was strangely disorienting to see how calm and quiet it seemed. How there was a much smaller crowd, and definitely nothing close to the absolute cacophony and chaos it would have in the 21st century.

NATURE

(A cento poem made up of lines from Mary Oliver's 'Nature')

Restless and wild, the root and branch, the bloodied beak-they tossed the moon upward into the crooked branches.

All night I could settle on nothing.

Even the screams from the cold leaves went on lapping on its slow way which is the true gift of nature.
