It is because the term "shot" is highly specific projectile-wise ☝️🤓, if it can fire multiple projectiles out of a single barrel then it fires a "shot" and if it has a smoth bore barrel then it is a shot-gun But if it has any form of rifleling then it is a rifle I blame the british for this nonsense
