I know "don't judge a book by its cover" but Lulu Chen is doing an AMAZING job on @sarahbethdurst.bsky.social's The Spellshop series, fucking stunning Idk I just wanted to show you guys Also the books are good and fun and I've read 2 of these and am just starting the last.

Got an art kid who isn't quite reading? I just picked up Zoom and the farm scene page will zoom out and turn out to be a play farm a child is playing with and the child playing with the farm toys will zoom out and turn out to be an adult for farm toys on a magazine, and this kiddo is FASCINATED

Did I show you guys this 4 year old's chalk self portrait?

A humanoid creature drawn on a driveway in white chalk. It has 3 jagged claws on each limb. It has nubs? horns? two tiny fezzes? on top of its head. On one side of its head is an arching stripe of long hair. On the opposite side, a cape flows from its shoulders.

A close up on the face. Words will not do it justice, but an attempt - its eyes are two repeating spiraling circles, but somehow manage to convey pain, angst, and maybe fear. You're not sure what this creature might be capable of. Its gaping maw may be colored in, but the scribbles hint at chaos trying to scramble out from within. Despite its simplicity, it contains multitudes.

Also I got him these ones from Fire Mountain Fabrics but I'm not telling him yet because I'm going to do some ribbonwork and make them fancy for summer ceremony stuff - apparently boys are doing ribbon shorts now!

2 fabrics. One is ba black background with turtles on it, the turtle shells all have Indigenous (Anishinaabe maybe?) style florals on them. The other is a red background with a geometric print most often associated with the North American Southwest Indigenous peoples.

So... I told him 2, but we settled on 3 fabrics. I think I'm going to do all of the tops and he's going to do part of the bottoms because shorts are kind of easy but I've also never taught a 6 year old to sew lol

Omg hey felting buddy!!! I just took a needle felting and bead embroidery class this weekend and made a thing and I think I'm hooked now

Needle felting in a black frame depicting a waterfall scene. The rocks and background are needle felted, the trees are embroidered with embroidery floss, and the water and leaves are seed beads.

Yesterday we found a polyphemus moth caterpillar, and as every child learned of its existence through the playground whisper network, every child came over to me to make sure I had seen it also. I looked at that rad ass caterpillar like 20 times and it was great, 10/10
