Us cont. This was a message-first movie, so I understand why the Concept bits weren't brought to the forefront, but this is a rare case in horror where the concept was so interesting I actually DID want to hear more about it. But I understand not wanting to upstage the privilege/inequality message

Lupita Nyong'o, wearing a red boiler suit and brown leather glove, holds a mask of her own face and peeks at us from behind it. it's held in such a way that her eye behind the mask is slightly visible through the oposite eyehole. Tears stream down from her right eye on the fully visible side of her face. Behind her is a black background, in front of her right shoulder is the title of the movie in white loopy font

25. Us. Family on vacation has their home invaded by a group of people who look just like them. Wild one. Just like with Get Out, Jordan Peele is incredibly good at blending poignant commentary with high-concept scares. The mythology presented was so interesting, I'd have liked a bit more of it tbh.

Spooky Month Media thread thing! Never done one of these, but I've been making it a point to take in as much spooky/horror media as possible every october for the past few years, so I say, WHY NOT. [1of?]

24. V/H/S Mixtape. Mixed bag like all the VHS titles, but I particularly enjoyed the puppet segment (with puppets from the jim henson workshop!!!!!) as well as all the silly interstitials featuring members of GWAR. One segment had an MC use the pervert glasses and i got too mad to enjoy that one.

four bloody, but undeniably charming puppets hold a guy they just killed and look into the camera as if to say "You're next :D " One puppet is a green ladybug thing, one is a big yellow mosquito, one is a...botulism? And the fourth is a blue guy with some blood on him

23. Bloody Tennis. So get this. It was a live action sports anime...as a horror movie. A concept that I would never have expected, and executed pretty well. There were a couple of moments where I went "Ok." but I'd still recommend it. Creative, grisly, gay. Also tennis. What more could you want?

Main character, visbile from the mouth down, holds a tennis racket in crossed arms. superimposed behind the strings of the racket is a big skull. BLOODY TENNIS is double-exposed over her arms in Giant Red fuck-you font

22. Deathstalker. Remake of the (apparently) classic sword and sorcery movie from the 80s. Not a horror, but very gory (necromancers) so probably it it was on shudderTV. Almost turned it off. Glad I didn't, because it was a TON of fun. Great practical effects and monster makeup. Both cool AND silly

Classic-style movie poster with all the main characters in a black/red monochrome with the title in the bottom third in cool heavy metal font

Mortuary Assistant cont. Long monologues about the origins of the demons and explanations of how to fight them, blah blah blah. We tried to make some allegory by comparing the demons to personal trauma (It never goes away, you learn to live with it) but plenty of movies have already done it better

A Spooky Monster Man(tm) grins at us from the darkness with the movie title in front of him. Don't waste your time. Seriously. It was so contrived.

21. Mortuary Assistant. Woman finishes her mortitian's training at a spooky mortuary led by a spooky guy. It's based on the videogame. Meh. The trailers made it look bland and boring, and big surprise, it was bland and boring. Same tired old western ghost horror tropes as always

Vieja Loca cont. Like mother of flies, I really enjoyed the setting, shot composition, and general vibes of this one. The creepy old house it was set in was gorgeous, and I wish it was my house (minus the Crazy Old Lady, obvs). Did a great job blending humor w/ scares without sacrificing either.

Styled like an old book or VHS cover, the titular Vieja Loca stands in front of a vertical rectangular backdrop of spooky woods with heavy black bordering on all sides. She wears a red dress and holds a bloody electric carving knife. Her face and eyes are scratched out like a defaced photo. The words VIEJA LOCA sit boldly in the top third in a nice beveled font. Between her and the backdrop is an aesthetically stylish blood spatter

20. Crazy Old Lady (Vieja Loca). Man is asked to look after his ex's senile aging mother. He showed up, I was out of the room getting dinner (this was on shuddertv so couldn't pause), and by the time I was back, he was padlocked to a chair, being threatened with a carving knife. Insane, fun, silly.

19. Mother of Flies. Girl with treatment-resistant cancer makes contact with a mysterious healer/necromancer in a dream and ventures to find her in the woods, where she undergoes a series of rituals in hopes of being cured. Loved the atmosphere of this one. Some great earthy, witchy feminine horror.

Daytime shot deep in the forest. Solveig, the witch with long curly grey hair, kneels in the foreground, looking at something out of frame while Mickey -a girl in her late teens or early twenties with a short haircut and a muted pink tee- stands slightly out of focus in the background. She is flanked by two trees

18. The Ugly Stepsister. "Body Horror cinderella from the perspective of a step-sister" sounds like a recipe for contrived schlock, but NOT THIS TIME, BABY. Start to finish I could not look away. Probably my favourite ShudderTV find so far. If you can handle body horror, do NOT miss this one.

17. Dead Mail. A suspicious letter arrives at the local post office reading "help, kiddnapped [address]" and a whole winding mystery unfolds. Great retro vibe, a story in which analog synthesizers play a surprisingly important role, and a kidnapper equal parts chilling and tragic. Loved it

A bound pair of hands hold a blood-spattered letter reading "Help Me, Kidnapped" over the keyboard of a partially-build analogue synthesizer. The Movie title hovers over the circuits in a very simple digital font

16. Mad Cab. This was a shudderTV watch and I missed the first 20ish minutes, but I enjoyed it a lot more than the imdb score led me to believe I would. Nick Frost is a cab driver who has kidnapped two unsuspecting riders. Loved his performance. It really carried the movie for me. It was a good time

Rear View Mirror with Nick Frost glaring at Synnove Karlsen, who sits in the back seat. In the bottom 3rd is the Movie title, with a spooky aparition hiding behind the C in cab

15. Creep 2. Fun follow-up to the original, with a protagonist who challenges (I just call him Mark, because the actor is Mark duplass and the character gives fake names every time) in a way Aaron couldn't in the first movie. Overall just a good time. Not super scary, but just scary enough.

14. Doctor Giggles. A murderous psycho who thinks he's a doctor escapes an insane asylum and wreaks havoc on the local town. A lot of fun, great doctor schtick, and doesn't take itself to seriously. Easy recommend if you want something bloody but not too heavy. The Doctor himself is a joy to watch

Doctor Giggles leers at you from behind a sawblade gadget thing, clearly he's about to operate on you. Some other non-descript psychos watch from the upper floor of the surgical theater

13. The Devil's Bath. Set in austria in the 18th century and based on true crime reports from the time. A woman kills a baby and is sentenced to death. Another woman tries to adjust to married life as dark thoughts sink in. Dark, heavy subject matter, but gripping all the way through.

Main character Agnes putting on a crown of what appear to be holly berries?

12. Creep. No more ShudderTV. Rewatched this one with my partner and it was still a ton of fun. Mark Duplass plays an excellent charismatic pyschopath and his performance really carries the movie, but Patrick Brice as the camera operator kept up really well. Short-and-sweet. Definitely recommend

11. Funeral Home. ShudderTV was on for most of my day yesterday. This one was also kind of a stinker. But this one was from THE SEVENTIES. I'd avoid spoilers but you're not going to watch it. It was psycho again but worse and with extra steps.

Funeral home movie poster. Silhouetted house screams yellow light into a monochrome blue cemetary with a creepy hand reaching over the headstone closest to the camera. Fun, painterly style for a poster. A gold star holds "5.1 IMDb" with...pride?

10. Skeletons in the Closet. Good lord. One of the most insultingly bad movies I've ever watched (came after nightwatch on shudderTV). I have no idea how they good Terrence Howard AND Cuba Gooding Jr. in this stinker. Not scary, made absolutely no fucking sense, sounded awful. Give this one a miss.

Still from the movie with the main character and her daughter in a doctor's office. The title is in the top left. January 24 is in the top right. The subtitles say "There is no sign of cancer anywhere" There's no sign of interesting movie anywhere either

9. Nightwatch: Demons are Forever. 2023 legacy sequel to nightwatch that played right after on shudderTV. It's a horror legacy sequel, so do with that what you will. Similar-but-not-exactly-same plot centering around Jaime's daughter. Jaime is still in it. It was good enough not to turn off. Meh

Movie poster. The faces of Jaime, his daughter, and his bff from the first movie start at you from the top third while the new nightwatch shines her flashlight on a man seated in front of the camera

Katurday_Night @katurdaynight.bsky.social · 06/10/2026

8. Nightwatch. Started this one about 20 minutes in via shudder TV so I did miss the beginning, but it was still reasonably enjoyable. This is the kind of movie that reminds you "Mid does NOT mean bad." Nightwatchmen at a morgue gets wrapped up in some grisly crimes. It's got Jaime Lannister in it!

Nightwatch movie poster. A silhouetted Night Watchmen shines his flashlight, superimposed over a close-up of a frightened woman's face.

7. Penny Lane is Dead. Hard to really say any of the things I liked about this movie without spoilers, so I'll just say ITS ANOTHER GAY ONE BAYBEEEE! Bloody good time with some fun sequences, good performances, and it's australian if that sweetens the pot for anyone.

Two suspect looking characters taunt the PoV by offering a couple coins in exchange for being let inside. One is a girl of late teens or early 20s with dyed red hair and smudged eyeliner, the other is a bleach blond bad-boy lookin guy in a leather vest

6. Buffet Infinity. Silly fun analog horror comedy told through local commercials, slowly converging into something impressively creepy by the end. If you like Welcome to Night Vale, the tones aren't super similar, but I can't help but compare them. Not the absolute best, but totally worth a watch

5. Possum. God, this one was grim. The atmosphere was immaculate, the whole presentation was disorienting in the best way. Had me freaked the fuck out from minute 1. No faffin about in this one. Might be one to avoid if spiders aren't your thing, but hoo boy did I love the titular possum's design.

4. Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma. Not sure I would call this a horror, even with the horror theming, but oh well. It's refreshing to see a movie be so unashamedly queer. Loved the characters, the setting, the prop humor (so many candy packages), and a romance that I actually cared about.

3. Skinamarink. I don't think I've ever seen another movie that does such a good job of evoking what it felt like to be awake and afraid in the middle of the night as a child. Chilling, atmospheric, one of the scariest movies I've ever seen. Some people find it boring, I'm not one of them. Holy shit

2. Willy's Wonderland: This movie was so dumb, man. I loved it. "What if Nic Cage was a non-verbal autistic badass who beat up we-have-fnaf-at-home characters for 90 minutes?" It was good in the ways I wanted. It was bad in the ways I wanted. Great palette cleanse after a heavier one like obsession

Obsession cont.: Between bear and nikki, it felt like two different horror movies stitched flawlessly together. I can definitely see why there was discourse around this one, because from...certain perspectives, Bear's Horror may hide Nikki's from view, but god was her side horrifying. Great watch.

I cannot wait to find out more about him. He looks MORE like Riku than Sora, so I wonder if he serves the same purpose to his reality as riku does to his. But with Sora having been given Riku's first keyblade, some of Riku's role passed to sora, so it makes sense to me that yozora reflects them both
