someone told me in grad school that my voice had “unearned confidence”—as a young woc in british lit, i HAD to write confidently to make space for myself. a white man said in workshop: “maybe she’s not ready for a novel” THESE FUEL ME. I now write confident gay novels. What have you done, BEN?
