This is the second book I read in 2026 and ultimately was a very well written and cozy read. It also taught me that I don’t like memory-loss/amnesia rom coms. at all. 😅 which is why I haven’t gone back and read the first in the series because it relies on the same device. But great if you like them!

Kat’s Ongoing 2026 Reading Review Thread! I’m a little behind, but plan to use this to share what I’ve read and how I liked it! I tend to only finish books that (for the most part) I absolutely loved, so expect lots of 4 & 5 star ratings. 📚💙

I haven’t used this platform in many many months. So much has changed since last May. I am no longer engaged. I now have over 4 months of hard-won sobriety under my belt. I’m still reading, especially any books with a time related element, and hope to re-engage & share my reading here. 📚💙

I turned 34 Sunday - the 5th time in my life my birthday has been on Mother’s Day, and my second time as a mother! 💕 it was a great day spent riding rollercoasters at Cedar Point, and I have a feeling that 34 will be my best year yet - so much esp. my 1st house & wedding on horizon!

It’s my birthday eve eve eve and I’m making the debut of my new mobility aid, Rory the Rollator! Thanks for all the mobility aid advice! As you can tell by the last picture, I put it together this weekend and it was quickly co-opted by one of my cats, Barnes.
A selfie of a red headed person with glasses frames of dinosaurs with balloons, seated on a rollator with one handle visible in the frame, wearing an olive green t shirt that has a picture of a rollercoaster on it and says BIRTHDAY RIDES AND GOOD VIBES.A picture of the back of the seat of a rollator with a sticker on it that says CERTIFIED MEMBER INVISIBLE ILLNESS CLUB with a picture of a ghost on it The backrest of a red rollator with a sticker that has a picture of a rollator on it and reads I’M JUST WHEELY COOLA white cat with brown spots seated on a red and black rollator

April read #9: Rules for Ghosting by @shellyjayshore.bsky.social. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. By far the best book I read this year so far. Trans protagonist, complex Jewish family, tons of humor and heart - plus ghosts!! The characters, prose, and relationships are top notch; I wanted to stay in this book forever.
The cover of the book Rules for Ghosting: A Novel by Shelly Jay Shore. Features a large home at the top and several symbols around including two sets of two candlesticks, two open caskets, leaves, two sets of butterflies, and two hands holding at the pinky in front of a tombstone with a Star of David on it.

April feels like it passed in the blink of an eye, but along with a great mini-vacation, I got a lot of reading done this month: 11 books read total! Book #8: A Holiday Homicide by @elliealexander.bsky.social. ⭐️⭐️⭐️.75 loved the gingerbread competition & characters; end felt abrupt. Still 💕 the series
The cover of Holiday Homicide: A Secret Bookcase Mystery, featuring a small town at Christmastime. There is a tabby cat in the left corner of the book cover, next to a chalkboard that reads “A Recipe for Murder”

Good thoughts appreciated - have been having a bad flare for 5 days now (especially lower back, flank & left hip pain, as well as spine pain), & it’s just been getting worse and I haven’t really had much of an appetite over that time, so I went to the local ER to be seen, mostly to r/o infection.

Has anyone switched mobility aids from a cane to something more and can advise me? I’m on my own a lot and a wheelchair doesn’t make sense, but I have considered a lightweight wheeled rollator with a seat. It would be a big investment but could mean a lot for ongoing independence.

On day 4 of one of the worst chronic pain flares I’ve had in a long while thanks to the temps and probably overdoing it on vacation (don’t regret it though!). Have gotten a little house stuff done but mostly been bedridden; had some good reading time though!

Was able to take 3 days off work and have been on a delightful mini-cation with my daughter over the last 3 & next 2 days! Children’s museum & bakery for gluten free Easter treats; Easter weekend w/ my parents & partner; butterfly garden today & indoor waterpark tomorrow! Never been to the latter.
An Easter painting of a sunflower garden with various other flowers, a “cat sun” and a bird my 11 year old daughter painted at the children’s museum, featuring “Happy Easter” in navy cursive. Two Easter Eggs I hid for our hunt outside at my parent’s house on Sunday - a light blue one in a clump of grass, and a red one by a old faded Beagle statue which is up against a corrugated metal gray barn. A news station photo of Butterflies in Bloom at Frederik Meijer Gardens in Grand Rapids, MI - features two little girls in pretend butterfly wings with two women, looking at butterflies in the greenery. One woman is pointing at the butterflies. All faces are away from the camera towards the butterflies. A wide angle photo of Kalahari indoor waterpark in Sandusky, Ohio.

I didn’t start really seeing myself in stories until my 30’s, which is a big contributing factor to me not realizing I was disabled until my mid 20s and not coming out as queer and non-binary until my 30s! Now my daughter gets to read children’s books with disabled protagonists and queer families 🥹

April Read #7: The Out Side, a comic anthology featuring all trans and non-binary artists including @sagecoffey.bsky.social, @aikosmith.com & @danacorn.bsky.social. One of my favorite reads of the year so far - full of honesty, hope & trans life affirmation; loved the various art styles. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The cover to The Out Side: Trans and Nonbinary Comics anthology. Features three cartoon drawn people under a rainbow with the colors of the trans flag; each of the people is one of the colors of the trans flag (light pink, light blue, and white). They flare on a path under a rainbow. There are butterflies with the colors of various flags including the rainbow flag & the non-binary white, black, purple and yellow flag, as well as a pink, white & blue trans caterpillar on a leaf and several tropical-looking flowers.

April read #6: Amari and the Night Brothers by B.B. Alston. So wish this series was around when I was a middle schooler! Amari is a delightful protagonist and I love her magical school and world and the supporting characters, especially her “unturned dragon” roommate, and her love of family. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.25
The cover of Anari and the Night Brothers by B.B. Alston; cover illustration by Brittany Jackson. Features a young Black girl, Amari, with natural hair in tight curls ending at about her shoulders, touching some sort of floating glass ball that appears to be shattering, pieces of glass going everywhere on the cover. The girl is wearing a blue collared shirt over a white undershirt, tight cuffed blue jeans, and converse style tennis shoes.

So behind! 😂 April read #5: Death at the Dinner Party, Secret Bookcase #3 by @elliealexander.bsky.social. Another fun one! Love getting to see Priya take more center stage in this one; she’s a fave supporting character and love her sapphic relationship, as well as more of the town’s history! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The cover of Death at the Dinner Party by Ellie Alexander - shows a fancy table set up for an elegant dinner party. There are sunflowers in the middle with a skull and a vial of poison beside it. There are six place settings; 5 have uneaten bowls of soup and full wine glasses; the sixth’s wineglass is spilled on the table, resulting in spilled red wine on the dark table cloth. A orange tabby cat with a purple collar sits on the sixth chair. A chalkboard sign propped up by an adjacent chair says “A MENU TO DIE FOR!”

I loved the fact that artists took an AI “trend” back and made their own awesome art out of it! I am anti-AI but not an artist - BUT I live with an artist, my 11 year old daughter! This is her first ever commission, which she’d tell you proudly - I paid her $10 & will cherish it forever 💕
A me as a doll drawing my 11 year old daughter did of me. It’s titled “mom Kat & scar” and has both of us as dolls with accessories of cat and cat toys, tea, flower and donut; and electronics (kindle, phone, charger), and my journal and pencil. Me in the irl Svaha brand mushroom dress she based it off of.

Perfect Sunday afternoon after going to church & potluck, running errands & starting tackling the biggest doom piles in preparation for impending move - tucked in bed, jammied up, cuddling with all 3 kitties & my ereader! Now we just have to decide what to watch & what to read! 📚🌎📚💙
Person with chin-length red hair wearing floral pajamas with pink piping; wearing rainbow-rimmed glasses & smiling, leaning against a pillow tucked into bed. Two cats on either side of the poster’s feet which are underneath the blankets (a rainbow striped blanket and a turquoise throw with multicolor Christmas trees - yes the poster realizes it’s April but their bunny blanket is at work) - one grey cat (Noble) to the left and one black cat (Athena) to the right. A white cat with a grey & black raccoon-like striped tail and a brown head and brown patch on his nose, laying on the bed asleep, next to the poster’s ereader which is in a floral case, and their journal, a yellow-spined boom that says NOTEBOOK down the spine. There is a cow stuffed animal barely in view behind the cat, and you can see a bit of the poster’s arm and floral nightgown sleeve.

April read #3: Witchlight by @hugbox.bsky.social. This was another fast paced fantasy graphic novel that I really enjoyed; loved the main characters and all the people they met along the way, and the charming art! Loved the ending - there were some shocking high stakes but they resolved cozily. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The cover to WitchLight by Jessi Zabarsky; a graphic novel cover featuring the two main characters, a light skinned female warrior with a sword and a dark skinned witch with a candle floating above her head. Mushrooms, plants and greenery outlines decorate the rest of the cover.

Back into my reads for this month so far: #2: Squire by @saraalfageeh.bsky.social & @nadiashammas.bsky.social. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5. Beautiful art; fast paced realistic fantasy with great characters & a compelling plot. Not what I normally read with the war/dynasty plot but it was gripping and I ended up ❤️ing it!
The cover of the graphic novel Squire by Sara Alfageeh and Nadia Shammas. Features a young warrior with dark shoulder length hair sitting on the lowest of five pillars above what appears to be a brick fortress; the pillars are ascending into the clouds.
