Lovely socks, I may take some inspiration from them. I'm sitting here watching some repeat of a show I'm not really interested in, to avoid watching the news 😬

Can I be of help at all? I have knitted worsted weight, colourwork socks before I might be able to answer any questions. Mine are boot socks - nearly knee-high. Lovely and toastie!

Thank you. I'm not really a scarf person - but I do now own countless shawls! But... you have made me think about some Aran weight yarn I have, as we head towards winter that may be a useful start to something.

I am off for a flying visit to Amsterdam, wondering what #knitting project I should take with me. Socks are an eternal fave, but I want to knit lace not plain - which will make a project less 'commuter-friendly'. I could cast on a plain top/cardi etc as being more 'mindless'. Decisions, decisions.

#knitting #skyknits not sure the pick does justice to this sweater. It looks tiny but is a crop top with negative ease (and little puffy sleeves). Baby alpaca DK in dark blue, purple and green. Colourway is Engine Oil by Quack Yarns (UK etsy). It really does have that dark rainbow quality.
Sweater lying on a white sheet. The body has alt small and larger cables.

I really want a laundry room, esp as the weather is beginning to turn. I hold one in my dreams, a place to dry my hand knits. How sad is that? What a 1st world problem to have. My house is so badly designed (no woman would design such a layout) & there's really no way forward. Sigh.

What about a gym membership? Surely that must also be a 'waste of money'? Could they please comment on that? Maybe all unemployed should get a free gym membership because it may save NHS funds? I suspect, too expensive...

So the Tories want to stop long-term unemployed spending money on booze, ciggies & gambling. How on earth are they going to police that? And, what is their evidence that money is being spent that way? Another example of making folks believe that's where money goes without supportive data.

I'd decide at the end depending on how wide you want the opening - wide & stretchy or narrower & stiffer.

Funny how short memories are. Wonder what locals made of RAF Barnham when previously occupied? Did they care that kids were roaming the village on foot, bike & moped at all hours, or that personnel were also out & about, making roads busy etc? Hubs lived there. Real issues or a matter of skintone?

Needle size really depends on how firm you want your fabric. Summer tops you may want 'softer' aka larger needle. For cooler days, a smaller needle. I casually knit in the eves, so about 3-4 weeks for something without too much patterning.

KatKnits @katknits.bsky.social · 23/09/2026
I mainly knit with lightweight yarn. I use various needle sizes depending on what I'm doing. Colourwork, lace patterns and held double with laceweight floof, I may use 4mm-5.5mm. Currently using 2.25mm for intricate colourwork. I don't find they take too long, but I'm a fairly fast knitter now.

Maybe, but that's nearly a whole skein of hand-dyed. I'll probably skip a year & see how I feel if they come back in 2028. It will also mean I'll get through my stash! Last year introduced me to spinning, so I'm not saying it's not worth attended - hence posting 😁🧶

Just thought I might mention eastangliayarnfestival.com tickets now on sale. I don't think I'll be there this time, like many things these days, it's too expensive. I don't know how it compares to others. #knitting #skyknits

I have to wonder if there ought to be new lenses through which we should look at 'differences'. The tick-box diagnosis which appears driven by the NICE guidance of some 20 or so yrs back now seems unhelpful in multiple ways. Widening diagnostic criteria is not the answer imho.

I spotted some lovely orangey yarn sitting in a WiP basket. Now I want to cast on another pair of socks. I don't need a) more WiPs or b) more socks. A #knitting thing.

Maybe we can build a wall and keep them in? As yet another white Brit (a copper) has been in court for multiple rapes, we're supposed to believe a black immigrant was to blame? Maybe put 1000 squaddies back in the barracks and see if the villagers feel so cosy.

#knitting the turtleneck is done but not yet caught down. My 1st ever Latvian braid is done. Now ready to start the yoke design. Had to adjust the maths on this pattern, but it doesn't detract from the fun of the process.

#showmeyourknits WIP, this time, my design. I think I may prioritise this to finish, as it's been hanging around a while. I'd been pondering the design for the body.

Another #showmeyourknits WIP. This time it's a close fitting DK jumper from Helene Arnesen, being knitted in baby alpaca. Just started on the sleeves, but I need an extra, long needle as I knit 2 at a time to ensure they're identical.
A sweater body lying on a white sheet. Colourway is called engine oil, a mix of dark blue with bits of green, blue & purple. Sweater features cables throughout back and front, with purled sides.

#showmeyourknits #knitting what's on my needles? (Or what's on my knee!) Just cast on a sweater this morning by @meerbuschknitter.bsky.social This will be my slow-flow WIP to be completed over the next 6mths, inbetween finishing other WIPs - mainly due to needle size vs ambition 😆

Last winter I knitted 🧶 my dad some socks. This summer he died, but my mum's started wearing them in the cooler eves (my dad had small feet). Today one of them are back at mine with a hole in!! Looks like they've been snagged by something, as it's in a very odd place.

KatKnits @katknits.bsky.social · 07/09/2026
I wondered if I may have missed an errata - I'm doing the 'ball and swirl' design which you use on other sweaters too. I've simply undone 3/4 of a row to make 4 decreases, not 2 - so no biggie 😁

@meerbuschknitter.bsky.social Hi - quick query. Just starting the neck of a dragon yoke sweater, but my count for the turtle neck pattern = 120 stiches, not 122? This may well be a labour of love as 2.25mm needles I usually reserve for socks!!! I think I shall enjoy this, slowly.

Ooh, happy yarn 🧶 buying accident. I thought I was buying orangey red and grey. Nope, the grey is coffee. The two look good together. This sweater will be a labour of love, I think. #knitting

He really is a bit of a waste of space. I am simply gobsmacked that my ancestors survived everything and I am here as a result. If we trace our own history back, we may well find out that we come from invaders, slave traders and all kinds of nasties. The important thing now is not to repeat.

I do similar - 2 pairs to mix or match. I figured that if any sprang too many holes, I still have 3 then 2 left!

We all make messes then get them sorted. I've lost count of how many corrections I've made to my latest piece - and it's not like I'm new to doing cables.
110
KatKnits @katknits.bsky.social · 31/08/2026
Oooh, I wonder if you mean the whole length? You knit until 14 rows before you started the shoulder shaping on the back. Shoulders are usually 6 rows (2k and 2p), so 20rows in all. It kinda looks like you may have started the neck shaping too soon?
000
KatKnits @katknits.bsky.social · 31/08/2026
I can't really see the arm edge. What you should have are one side plus centre stitches on a holder. The neck should then gently slope as you go up. The shoulder stitches are then cast off from the arm side, meaning the inner neck is the longest bit.

There is a substitute yarn guide online, but the yarns weren't widely available (so don't know about color choice). I have wondered about adding in some kidsilk to create additional depth. I looked at the indie market but couldn't match the weight.

I have just ordered the yarn to do a dragon sweater. Bit disappointed I couldn't find a suitable variegated yarn for the dragon. I'm wondering about adding a bit of extra colour to the body to keep the fabric thickness more even, as it's quite a fine yarn.

Well, I'm now down to the body! I'll do a few more rows before deciding if I need to frog. If I knit this pattern again, there's a few things I'd change. Knitting bottom up would be a start. It's not like I'm in a hurry. I could frog a few times 😆

That's what I fear. I love the overall pattern but how the short sleeves fell bugged me from the off.

KatKnits @katknits.bsky.social · 26/08/2026
I could add a little V under the arms. I was thinking I don't mind a looser fit that additional stitches would make. I think I'd better get my tape measure out & check current size & add a little for blocking & see where I'm at. Thank you.
