If students don't come to school, they can't learn. If students are afraid to come to school, they can't learn. If students come to school but don't feel safe there, they can't learn. If students come to school but aren't welcome to be themselves there, they can't learn.

This is what made me feel old today. First graders were using “best friends of 10” (addends that make 10) & I was trying to emphasize they always go together. Me: you know, like a superhero and their sidekick, like Batman and Robin. First grader: who’s Robin? 😂🫠

Just finished reading both of these. Highly recommended The Writing Revolution! So many good ideas. The content in both was fairly similar, but TRW was better IMO.
