So many echoes here of my @healthfoundation.bsky.social lecture: to get the gains of AI in health we need to invest in robust evidence & evaluation; strengthen the underlying data; and think about workflow and how to optimise the whole system rather than any one bit of it www.ft.com/content/3431...

Do you use Health trends in England fingertips.phe.org.uk/static-repor...? We are looking to replace it with a new integrated service for public health data and we're running a survey with users at the moment to understand what they currently use it for. forms.office.com/Pages/Respon...

How do you persuade people they need to take #Ebola seriously when more in their midst are dying from other diseases & armed conflict? That is the challenge #WHO DG Tedros confronted when he visited the outbreak zone in DRC this week. “Ebola is a lesser evil." www.statnews.com/2026/06/13/w...

My PhD Sajedeh Rasti has published a World View piece in Nature today: "Don’t compete, collaborate: why collective funding applications are the future" www.nature.com/articles/d41... She discusses how she successfully brought together a team of meta-scientists to collaboratively apply for funding.

Scientists with disparate expertise writing grants together can identify knowledge gaps and drive progress — but systems must change to incentivize them.

Good data is essential for policy. Today it’s been a year since we had a permanent National Statistician. No news on what is happening with the current recruitment which began Oct 2025. This is an under the bonnet issue that points to state failure 🧵 uksa.statisticsauthority.gov.uk/news/stateme...

Really enjoyed this thought-provoking workshop this week at @cmmid-lshtm.bsky.social @lshtm.bsky.social on evaluation & responsibility in infectious disease modelling. Brilliantly organised and led by @kathsherratt.bsky.social, with Erica Thompson. Great discussions on both practice and training.
Word cloud from the workshop introduction. Positive qualities like transparent, open, reproducible, honest in blue and green at the top; negative ones like biased, overconfident, closed, opaque in orange and red at the bottom.

(who are maybe closer to the data etc.) to do those analyses. So the work we should provide incentives for most academics is support for using their "thing" and plugging specialist gaps.
