I've been working on some drawings of the circulatory system, trying to get the texture right. I think the coloured biro lines on the right look good. Biro ftw (again!) 🐡
Full human body sketch with circulatory system in blue and red. Left: watercolour. Right (head and shoulders only): biro.

I just did my annual thing of wanting to find something on Twi/X, scrolling for ages and ending up feeling sad for how things once were (not in a good way). The thing I was looking turned out to be not that exciting after all.

We're into the final 24 hours of Making With Biology Summer CELL-out, my Ready-to-Ship Shop! I just added my Jelly Picks - Sea Wasp guitar picks - six colours, each a different thickness :) One even glows in the dark!! Check them out - www.backerkit.com/c/projects/k... 🐡🦑
Six guitar picks with similar Sea Wasp jellyfish design. Arranged on a black card with scribbly writing that says 'Deadly Tangle'. The guitar picks are blue, purple, pink, white, glow-in-the-dark, and black. Graph paper sits at the back.

I've been staring at ribbon structures for years and only just started drawing them. This is the beginning of a drawing of haemoglobin, the oxygen-carrying molecule in your blood. I wish I hadn't started on lined paper but already I think it's beautiful. #heart #bioart #sciart
Sketch of the ribbon structure of haemoglobin (hemoglobin). Coils and star-like spaces are emerging. Red biro on lined paper.

My favourite biro ran out during this drawing so I had to raid my son's pencil case, which turns out is full of pens he's found on the floor, and broken ones at that. Funny that teenage boys experience a higher than average incidence of exploding pens. #heart #sciart #bioart

My last post of #invertefest, the original artwork for my Deadly Tangle project: a Sea Wasp or Australian box jellyfish (Chironex fleckeri) 🐡 🦑 Pencil, felt-tip and Sharpie on paper. Take a look at my campaign if you haven't already, live for another 2 weeks www.backerkit.com/c/projects/k...
Sea Wasp jellyfish with white tentacles and white 'deadly tangle' lettering in cursive. Purple and blue felt-tip pen pick out the 'detail' in the jellyfish body. The white of the jelly and lettering are the white of the paper - these are made in the negative space by black felt-tip, fine liner and marker pen (as each ran out!) around the components of the image and for the black background.

We now need *one more backer* to reach 50 backers and then all backers will receive a free sticker! The choice is between a Plumed Scorpionfish (Scorpaena grandicornis) and a Narrow-lined Pufferfish (Arothron manilensis). Which deadly fish would you choose? 🐡 🦑 www.backerkit.com/c/projects/k...
Left: A Plumed Scorpionfish, brown, orange and red. The fish has a round red eye and plumes above. It has venom-filled spikes.

Right: A Narrow-lined Pufferfish has been drawn with colours that indicate the amount of toxin in each part of the fish, with red being the highest, yellow the lowest, and green ‘not detected’.

Media for both: watercolour and coloured charcoal pencil on paper.

For day 6 of #invertefest, a Japanese Sea Nettle (Chrysaora pacifica), from #invertober2025. A bit more of a sketchy style for this one - I was trying to be quick - but I remember getting really tangled up in those tangly tentacles! Watercolour and coloured charcoal pencil on paper 🐡 🦑
The bell of this Japanese Sea Nettle is pale orange-pink with darker segments radiating out from its centre with dark purple or maroon edges. The tentacles are a similar colour to the bell and are tangly (difficult to draw!) against a turquoise (lower) and khaki green (upper) sea behind.

One of the newest additions to my jellyfish collection, Atolla jellyfish (Atolla wyvillei), in watercolour and coloured charcoal pencil on paper 🐡 🦑 This is another jelly that flashes with blue bioluminescence to scare away predators - making it look even more like an alien spaceship! #invertefest
Atolla jellyfish (Atolla wyvillei) like a knotted ball of orange string or perhaps a burning hot sun, with thin tentacles streaming off to the left. Against a very dark blue/brown ocean.
