NEW! Jack Rittenhouse: A Western Literary Life, by David Farmer Rittenhouse was a multi-dimensional individual for whom books were a way of life. “That he was also an experienced freight-hopping hobo only adds to the fun.” —William deBuys
Image shows the book cover for Jack Rittenhouse: A Western Literary Life, by David R. Farmer. Next to the book cover is a blurb, “David Farmer’s biography of Jack Rittenhouse is essential reading for Southwestern book people. As editor, publisher, printer, and rare book dealer, Rittenhouse did much to shape the literary landscape we live in now. That he was also an experienced freight-hopping hobo only adds to the fun.”

The release of Broken Arrow represented a turning point in Hollywood’s portrayal of Native Americans. Film scholars have often cited director Delmer Daves’s movie as the first sound film to depict the Native American sympathetically, appealing to a postwar ideal of tolerance and racial equality.

New in paperback, from UNM Press: The King of Taos, by Max Evans. “Evans may have been born in Texas, but New Mexico—the setting of many of his twenty-five novels—captured his heart. His latest, written at ninety-five years old, is no exception. A series of sharp vignettes describe the meandering misfortunes of the drunken ne’er-do-wells who populate post–World War II Taos.”
