Fun fact for all those who have been equally obsessed by the Artemis expedition this week: My publishing imprint (Arteminion Books) was also named after the Ancient Greek goddess - and the logo (containing both the moon and a bow, her signature weapon) features on the spines of both my novels 💙📚

I contacted my Tory MP (Graham Stuart) about condemning Trump for his actions regarding Venezuela and Greenland, and this was his response. It seems the Conservative Party’s position is that they will continue to support the US no matter who is in charge or what they’re doing.

The United States is our most important ally, and I believe our ties to the US go beyond the political. The friendship between our two peoples and countries are profound and deep-rooted, manifesting in millions of interactions each and every day – from nearly £300 million in trade and co-operation of defence and security, to shared cultural values and a commitment to prosperity and freedom.

Regardless of who is occupying the senior administration and political roles on both sides of the Atlantic, it is vital that the relationship is nurtured, with a united approach taken on key issues as much as possible and differences addressed in a responsible and measured way.

It is my firm belief that it is in our national interest to have a strong and productive relationship with the United States. Indeed, in today’s dangerous and unstable world, our friendship with the United States matters more than ever. From standing up to Putin’s aggression to tackling the threats posed by China and Iran, it is crucial that we continue to work closely with the US.

I must add that, while I find it difficult to reconcile the clear position of the US on China with the UK Prime Minister’s attempts to befriend China, I will continue to call for the UK to work closely with the US on this, and I will keep the UK Government’s approach to our shared interests and priorities with the US under close scrutiny.

Together, the UK and the US have been a force for good in the world, and I hope the Government will take the necessary steps to strengthen our partnership for years to come.
