I honestly don’t think they understand that people are facing violence. It’s just so far outside their reference point that it doesn’t even clock.

How to push more people to not have children Many already reference the punitive nature of school attendance (holiday cost) as a reason to not have children Adding a risk of prison when having an autonomous human will just convince more to not choose parenthood Support the community and parents

AI companies who attempt to hack should face legal ramifications: hiding behind "agents" isn't legitimate. It is a federal crime to not only succeed in hacking but also to conspire or attempt to commit hacking (US Computer Fraud and Abuse Act (CFAA) - 18 U.S.C. § 1030). They are not above the law.

Early Warning Systems would be used for more than just glaciers. The systems are put into place for multiple extreme weather and earth events, including earthquakes, and should take into account how conditions have changed due to climate change. EWS were just one of the measures I thought about.

This is why adaptation funding needs to be equal with mitigation. Multilateral Development Banks have agreed to this in principle, but funding hasn't materialized. Early Warning Systems is only one part of adaptation, supply routes post-disaster is another. Its complexity needs a systems approach.

I won't claim to know Australia well: we reviewed their housing stock for a couple reports. I hope your house has more insulation than the average. If AMOC collapses much of the UK could be facing -25 (especially Scotland) to +50. Thankfully this isn't likely in our lifetimes & can be avoided still

We know that America is changing. Their trading relationships, their foreign policies, their national monuments, their hydronyms.

Canadians also know that naming reality means calling it Lake Ontario – then, now and always.

When I was 5 I visited family in Australia for months, and I remember that some Australian homes were bone chillingly cold. Found out later that insulation isn't really a thing. Found the same bone chill in many Japanese homes. I'll take Toronto homes please 😅

Why so many Australian homes are either too hot or too cold
Chances are the reason you’re cold right now isn’t just because of a polar air mass – it’s because millions of Australian houses are poorly insulated

These are the questions that’s those working on adaptation try to address. They are difficult, expensive, but important. One of the first things I thought of having worked in this space is if there been an early warning system fewer lives would have been lost. There are not plans in place.

Katherine T. Tyson @katherinettyson.bsky.social · 27/08/2026
Adaptation doesn’t mean no dire consequences, or Seattle/Vancouver wouldn’t exist because the big one will cause excessive damage. You mitigate the impacts, reduce exposure, respond quickly to events, and then work with the community to rebuild or relocate. Local agency has to be respected though.

In do think this framing could help with water consumption: virtual water as a concept is not well known. Our external water footprints are much larger than people assume Downplaying the emissions progress is harmful though. There is some GHG externalization but it doesn't negate mitigation success

Adaptation doesn't just involve avoiding tragic event happening: it's also about making sure the resources are available to respond, support, and rebuild. These communities need adaptation plans and international support already lined up. These events will get more frequent and they deserve help.

I like the idea of having civil service experience. Going from the service industry into an office position was hard & the skills you learn in an office are more beneficial to a CV. I would worry about psychological safety: they would need to be paired with someone who understands their background.

I do think people need to be paid. I don't know how I would have survived aging out of foster care without saving from my jobs from 14. In Canada, I worked at the deli grocery store as an employee, as did many others in secondary school. It wasn't about confidence but having a real, paid job to live

Canada’s federal donation limit is $1775, to each party. Then you have limits for Provinces, like BC is $1500. 500K is such a high bar to begin with. If you kept it in line with Canada (both federal and provincial) it would be a yearly donation of £1750 per person, per political party.
