The early season greens delivered! Neither chill nor drought nor ravaging wildlife (that mowed about 3/4 of what I’d planted to the ground 2 weeks in) can keep a good bean down, apparently. My first real harvest of the year and I am so excited. #gardening

BEHOLD the slightly wonky but MOST SATISFYING cucumber arch! This took almost a year to get into place for various reasons and I am so damn proud of it, wonkiness and all. #gardening

What it’s like living in a state with a redistricting measure on the ballot right now. This was all in the mailbox TODAY. (Yes I’m gonna vote. I always vote. You don’t gotta kill a tree just for me, guys.)

A steep triangular section of hill, framed by pine logs because god do we STILL have so many logs to use up after Hurricane Helene. The ground is completely covered by a motley, multi-colored assortment of old clothes, mostly t-shirts but a few other scraps in there. The hope is they’ll smother the weeds that were growing here (because the spot is basically unmowable). I’ll layer dirt and mulch on top, and the cloth will gradually break down. Usually I do this with cardboard, but with the weird shaped hill cloth was much easier.

It’s been a stressful week on several fronts so I spent a chunk of the afternoon wandering my garden, discovering stuff I’d half-forgotten planting that’s now thriving and blooming. #gardening #bloomscrolling

A brilliant crimson flower with a dark center against a background of green. Corn poppy, from a partial shade seed mix I threw into the shade beds in literal handfuls in the early spring. I guess it took!

A bright yellow flower with a dark brown center. This is goldenmane tickseed, I thought from a native wildflower packet I also threw out there, but apparently it had a different variety of tickseed? So confused, but I’ve never seen it here before and it’s pretty so never mind.

A pair of cone-shaped flowers midway up an upthrust stalk, vivid purple in the middle shading to white as the petals curve outward. Outhouse hollyhock. I planted this last year but only two survived and this is the first time they’ve bloomed. Uncertain whether they’re perennial or biannual in my climate but I’m happy to see them either way.

I have knit many ridiculous things, but this… this… ok, it’s probably at least in the top 5. #knitting

A very fluffy, very poofy knit pillow, pale grey with grey-blue stripes, with cat ears, cat eyes and a nose and whiskers embroidered on, only I’m not great at ears or embroidery so it also kinda looks like an owl. My teen has dubbed it a “cowl”. Anyway it’s floofy so main goal achieved.

Finished #knitting the throw pillow cover I’ve been working on (with many interruptions) since dang August. Now let’s see how long I procrastinate upcycling the old bed pillow into a pillow form and doing the blocking. Dang it, why there gotta be all these orher steps. I just wanna knit.

Doing a bit of a DIY Christmas countdown / advent calendar for the kiddo this year. She’s getting the Nine Days Of Christmas because nine is where I ran out of #knitting cope.

Nine multicolored knitted mini stockings hang from a metal tree-shaped ornament holder. Each has been filled with some kind of treat. Mostly overfilled really. I thought the treats were small but the dang stockings were smaller.
