Woah, the hot spot across the northern Pacific is even more prominent in last month's sea surface temperature map. This is really quite striking! Though the extratropics in both hemispheres are warmer than average too. Data from @noaa.gov OISSTv2.1 at www.ncei.noaa.gov/products/opt...
Global map showing sea surface temperature anomalies in July 2025 relative to 1982 to 2010. Most areas are warmer than average. Red is shown for warmer sea surface temperatures, and blue is shown for colder sea surface temperatures. Data is from NOAA OISSTv2.1.

A real-time attribution study the early summer heatwave in Europe showed that human-caused warming increased the number of deaths by raising peak temperatures by up to 4C. People aged 65 and over made up 88 percent of the deaths linked to climate change, the research concluded.

Dutton’s nuclear plan doesn’t address the climate crisis for about 25 years, while its claimed cost savings of 44% are based on a comparison with Labor’s plan – that produces 45% more electricity. These are the glaring gaps and unanswered questions in the Coalition’s nuclear plan and costings.
