Friend says: Careful, that's how the Titanic died.
I say: I woke up this morning pondering that in another time and another place, we could have watched five billionaires load themselves into an undersea death trap on a quest to find the wreck of the HMS Heckin' Chonker.
The HMS Chungus.
Can you imagine, the HMS Absolute Unit.

not feeling great today, but wanted to share this thing I made last night, it just kind of happened
A collage featuring a face composited of Martha Stewart, Tony Bennett, Courtney Cox and Al Roker, imposed on a background of monochrome conifers. Triangles in various colors surround the head, which is adorned with a wreath crown. A sign at the bottom reads, "Your disregard for effort to nurture beauty is dishonorable & demoralizing." The top edge of the image is scalloped.

Disgusting. Clearly a calculated move meant to maximize casualties. DO NOT GIVE THEM WHAT THEY WANT! You are not alone.
Today, the U.S. The Supreme Court delivered a deeply troubling opinion in United States v. Skrmetti, upholding Tennessee’s ban on gender-affirming care for transgender minors. TransOhio condemns this decision, which threatens the health, dignity, and lives of trans youth across the country.

“This ruling gives a green light to discriminatory laws that deny care, sow fear, and force families to make heartbreaking choices,” said Dara Adkison, Executive Director of TransOhio. “It is a betrayal of the constitutional promise of equal protection and a devastating blow to transgender people and those who love them.”

Though the Court has failed to protect trans youth at the federal level, state and local advocacy and community remains as vital as ever. TransOhio will redouble our efforts in the courts, in the Statehouse, and in our communities to safeguard access to affirming care in Ohio while supporting trans Ohioans in every way possible.

We remind youth and families: you are not alone. This ruling does not erase your rights or your worth. We will fight alongside you—relentlessly—until every trans person has the legal freedom to live as their authentic self. We will continue supporting trans people across Ohio, growing community and resources; we are a part of this state and this country now and forever.

Regardless of this ruling, TransOhio urges Ohio lawmakers to stop efforts to ban gender-affirming care and instead invest in policies that protect the health and dignity of LGBTQ+ youth. We will continue to work with families, legal partners, and healthcare providers to navigate the shifting legal landscape and push for long-term protections at the state level.

At the risk of both repeating myself and appearing to give him any credit whatsoever, it seems Bernie Moreno has changed his tune somewhat re: anyone contacting him about anything interesting

This is from Bernie Moreno, one of my senators. It's part of an email thread, and the purple text shows what's exactly the same between individual emails in the thread. After three months spent sending him political requests and petitions, he sent me this ten times in half an hour.
An e-mail from US Senator Bernie Moreno that reads:

March 7, 2025

Dear Ms. XXXXXX,

Thank you for reaching out to my office and sharing your thoughts. Your feedback is invaluable as we work together to address the issues that matter most to Ohio. We meet with constituents every day in Washington, D.C., and it is the best part of my day.

I ran for office because I was tired of career politicians that cared only about getting reelected. I understand I work for you. It is one of the greatest honors of my life to represent Ohio and I work very hard every day to do the best job I possibly can.

I am committed to listening to your concerns and ensuring that your voice is heard in Washington. Every message I receive helps me better understand the needs and priorities of our constituents. We may not always agree, but I want you to know that I respect your passion, your point of view, and your desire to make our great country even better.

If you need assistance with a federal issue or agency that you feel my office can address, please reach out to my casework team. They can be reached at casework@moreno.senate.gov. You won’t find a more dedicated group to help you with anything from the Department of Veterans Affairs to the Social Security Administration to the Passport Agency.

Again, thank you for your feedback.

Sincerely,

Bernie Moreno
United States Senator

I already moved my usual Friday grocery shopping to today. Of course, I don't do anything but absolutely necessary spending right now, so it's not making much difference, but it's what I can do. What can you do?
Economic Blackout Friday, Feb. 28, 2025, 12 AM-11:59 PM. Our first official act: "Turn It Off". For one day we show them who really holds the power. WHAT NOT TO DO: Do not make any purchases. Do not shop online, or in-store. No Amazon. No Walmart. No Best Buy Nowhere! No McDonald's. DO NOT SPEND MONEY ON FOOD: Fast food, gas, major retailers. Do not use credit or debit cards for non essential spending. WHAT YOU CAN DO IF NECESSARY: Only buy essentials of absolutely necessary items such as food, medicine, emergency supplies. If you must spend, ONLY support small, local businesses. SPREAD THE MESSAGE: Talk about it. Post about it. Document your actions that day! WHY THIS MATTERS: Corporations and banks only care about their bottom line. If we disrupt the economy for just ONE day, it sends a powerful message. If they don't listen, we make the next blackout longer. This is our first action. Our numbers are powerful. This is how we make history. SHARE THIS MESSAGE

The movie poster for the 1995 movie Powder, depicting a pale face in the sky wearing dark glasses with lightning reflected in one lens, a silhouetted figure on the ground holding up its arms backlit by a sunset, and the taglines "One of the Best Films of the Year!" and "An extraordinary encounter with another human being!" The attributions of these quotes are too small to read.
