This Court’s September 10 stay order meant that the
2022 map would be used in the 2026 congressional election
in Missouri, absent further order of this Court. And the
election has now begun under the 2022 map. But on
September 21, 11 days after this Court’s most recent order,
the U. S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit ordered
the District Court to enter a permanent injunction in effect
requiring use of the 2025 map instead of the 2022 map in
the 2026 election. Given this Court’s two prior orders in
this litigation, our conclusion that this was error should
come as no surprise

If 8th Circuit rules as anticipated, People Not Politicians will file emergency appeal to SCOTUS to maintain block on 7-1 gerrymander. The map seemed off the table after SCOTUS' last intervention, but a hostile 8th circuit panel (2 Trump judges, 1 H W Bush) seems likely to rule for MO Republicans

shot at kavanaugh here
Republicans just got another bad decision from the United States Supreme Court, one that the Court System took forever to give, and then blamed it, in part, on no time left to implement a solution to our totally CORRUPT and out of control Mail-In voting “disaster,” which is a laughing stock all over the World, and where we are the only country that has to endure such a Nation Destroying SCAM. Justices Alito and Thomas, legends both, strongly disagreed with this horrible, highly political, ruling.

Getting ahead of his 2 pm (local) return to Missouri Supreme Court, Secretary of State Hoskins says he's directing local election authorities to use the '22 map (6R-2D, though keep half an eye on MO-02, an R+8 district, which could get swept up if a big enough blue wave manifests)

Kate Riga @kateriga.bsky.social · 10/09/2026
Chuck Hatfield, counsel for People Not Politicians, tells Missouri Supreme Court that SOS Hoskins told him he understands that he's under an injunction from the state Supreme Court, and that he currently intends to proceed to the general election under the 2022 map (a 6R-2D gerrymander)

Breaking: Supreme Court stays federal judge's order that Hoskins can only use new 7-1 gerrymander. As of right now, Missouri Supreme Court order blocking that map from being used rules the day. This is all happening at lightning speed

Overnight: Judge Clark denies Hoskins' extraordinary request to stop the Missouri Supreme Court from holding him in contempt: "Numerous considerations counsel this Court against enjoining a state court of last resort, particularly before it even conducts a hearing" Contempt hearing 10 am local time

New: 8th Circuit panel (two Trump judges and one W Bush) deny People Not Politicians' request to stay lower court order that Hoskins not use any map -but- the new 7-1 gerrymander (that the Missouri Supreme Court enjoined). We'll be back at SCOTUS, possibly within hours

Today at the 5th Circuit, Louisiana trying to roll back access to mifepristone, the abortion drug (incl bringing back the in-person dispensing requirement). So far Judges Higginson (Obama), Richman (W Bush) & Douglas (Biden) skeptical that you can sue FDA for mifepristone being mailed into LA

Tomorrow at 11 am ET, Missouri Sec of State Denny Hoskins will show up (in person) to explain to the MO Supreme Court why he decided to follow the order of a Trump-appointed federal judge (saying he can use no other map but the new gerrymander) and ignore the Sup Court (says he can't use that map)

Kate Riga @kateriga.bsky.social · 08/09/2026
Breaking: SCOTUS will not greenlight Missouri Republicans' attempt to jam through new gerrymander that would change the current 6-2 map to 7-1 for the midterms. That new gerrymander will instead go to a statewide vote before it can be implemented

New: Talwani denies Trump attempt to lift order blocking his EO. "the late timing of the changes to State elex practices the federal agency seeks to impose by Final Rule are contrary to the public’s need for “clear & settled” “rules of the road” for Nov 3, 2026 midterm elex, now only 2 months away."

Kate Riga @kateriga.bsky.social · 26/08/2026
New: Talwani is unblocking Trump's mail-in executive order. This is likely to be very short-lived, and the injunction may be reimposed as soon as today. She said plaintiffs have to amend their complaint to include that USPS has issued a final rule (to satisfy SCOTUS' ripeness concerns) and refile

fascinating that the right's renewed fixation on "protecting women" in the WNBA has prompted another round of men throwing dildos onto the court mid-game. maybe, perhaps, what if, there is a throughline connecting these behaviors that has nothing to do with "protection" at all.... .... ...

Maybe the most candid a justice has been yet about the majority's partisan lean: Jackson writes that it "inappropriately transforms our discretionary emergency docket into a forum for mandatory review of this Administration’s arguments." Neither Sotomayor nor Kagan joined her dissent

Jackson candid about SCOTUS' purcell abuse based on the identity of the plaintiff. Says majority decided only that the plaintiffs in the executive order mail-in ballot case - a bunch of blue states - have to wait some undetermined amount of time to challenge the order, even as elections begin

In new birthright citizenship orders & the letter to fire Lisa Cook, Trump makes his sentiment clear. SCOTUS exists to help him achieve his political ends; any derivation from that role will be met with public criticism and a war of attrition to wear down the right-wing holdouts into complacency. ⤵️

DSCC: “Abdul El-Sayed has run an energetic campaign that inspired thousands of Michiganders across the state, with a clear focus on lowering costs and standing up for working families." Michigan voters "will reject [Rogers] again in November and send Abdul El-Sayed to the United States Senate.”

Fat lady finally singing — AP calls Michigan for Abdul El-Sayed, dealing another blow to the Dem establishment and raising some critical questions: Can lefty Democrats translate grassroots enthusiasm into statewide wins? Does El-Sayed have enough time to consolidate support after a nasty primary?

New: Busy night — got a copy of the Politicians Not People lawsuit in response to Missouri SOS Denny Hoskins finding the petition to hold a referendum vote on Republicans' new gerrymander "insufficient." Suit says there are explicit exceptions to the referendum process, and this is not one of them

🚨 Kansas voters once again reject GOP efforts to trick them into losing abortion rights. The no vote prevails on an amendment that wouldve replaced the indy commission with direct (partisan) elections for Supreme Court justices — which the AG promised would "slowly & quietly" let GOP stock the court

New: Missouri Secretary of State Hoskins, who dragged out his certification of a petition challenge to the state's new gerrymander until the very last day, now says the challenge is "insufficient." Not because there aren't enough signatures — there clearly are — but because it's "unconstitutional"
