I’ve been trying to get an official diagnosis since June on whether I have carpal tunnel or not, but while I’m waiting I’m not supposed to type “at all”, which is…

Dictated, not read. JK, no dictation will ever get “prolly” right without a fight.

Cause I hate talking out loud. Even this sucks, but for fiction it’s so much worse. Sorry, prolly not super helpful for you. Solidarity first bump.

I am struggling through the Mac thing and the Dragon thing and not succeeding with either. My problem is all the Old Norse names in half of my fiction, but the entire process is so opposite of flow for me. I kinda wonder if the writers who are super into dictation are just extroverts?

Asking folks to back fiction on #Kickstarter is weird. How are you supposed to know if you'd like it? So here's my story "The Last Hour of Hogswatch" on my blog. If you like it, I hope you'll consider backing #TwistedPresents mwl.io/archives/24991

I had hoped to get a bit ahead, but it looks like any proceeds from #twistedPresents will go to paying Quercy's vet bill. So, uh, I have a new book of Christmas stories coming? It's on Kickstarter? People tell me it's good? I'd appreciate your support? mwl.io/ks

Not “using your hands” all day is a slog. It’s been two weeks and I’m still waiting on my nerve testing appointment. And working on a short story, very laboriously.

I will totally continue my thread when I get better at voice commands. Copy/paste from YouTube to here is a lot of steps voice-only and not where I’m spending my spoons currently.

I am learning kanji, which is a very specific kind of typing. And I haven’t worked out a nontyping way of doing it yet. (There’s also cooking and cleaning, and now I have to bike instead of row and can’t pull weeds… but mostly I’m worried about the Japanese.)

Kate MacLeod @katemacleodwrites.com · 20/07/2026

So I’m in the process of being evaluated for carpal tunnel and/or arthritis and my doctor told me to “try not to use your hands.” I mean. I’ve dictated novels before (didn’t enjoy it, but needs must), and for most things the Apple voice control is actually kinda cool. But…
