It was awful. So much grief. And Gloucester is still a working fishing town, we just lost a boat last summer. When it happens, they leave all of the lights on down at the docks so the souls can find their way home. Unfortunately it still happens with relative frequency. Not an easy life, for sure!

My weekly Costco roses are so pretty this week! I usually do white or something else very very pale, but I thought orange was a good choice for October and Halloween season.

YUP. My 83 year old mom experienced heart failure 2 years ago. They took a ton of fluid (and weight) off of her. She was happy and I asked why, she said “I guess less weight is better”. She has never been thin but also never really out of the norm. But at 83 she still thinks about this. Ugh.

Thanks! They may all be gone by now but I’ll drive over tomorrow and see. Of all of the (nearly 100) plants I have inside and out, I don’t actually have a spider plant! My Mom had one for decades she had to toss bc of mites. So I’ll get a new one for her room for her winter stay!

I make them for my neighbors all of the time! If you can trust yourself to have a potential endless supply in your house, I use the Sally’s Baking Addiction recipe and it’s killer! Takes a little planning as dough (like most cookie dough) needs time to chill, but they’re delicious.

I’m not at the game tonight (because I have to teach) but I’m ok with it bc I’m not sure my heart could handle it. I watched the game 20 years ago at my mother in law’s rebuilt home on Bayou St. John, with other people who were all also figuring out how to be here and grieve and thrive and heal.

Agree with everyone’s comments, there are positives on both sides. Trades can make more $, but often are harder on the body and cannot be done as long in life. Office/college requirement jobs often have benefits not seen in trades and can be easier on the body.

Jonathan is one of the nicest people! He was here in New Orleans filming something while I was working as a server and finishing my doctorate. He came in frequently for breakfast, checked on my progress, and gave me his personal email so I could send him my completed dissertation!😭

It doesn’t…but I think that’s partially bc my Mom is 83 with a lot of awful chronic conditions and I know she is not living the way she wants to, & also because she has nothing (she rents, doesn’t have a lot of $) that will be a big deal to manage. I will miss her, but it doesn’t fill me with fear.

The fresh market sales on meat can definitely be worth! And the BOGO on the coconut shrimp (but I throw the sauce away 🤮), I always keep some in my freezer. And it’s the only place I can reliably find escarole!
