They can do this in English or the TL, depending on level. Set a timer for 1-2 minutes and see how many words they can get in the time. Have you ever played this? Do you play it with any variations? Let us know in the comments!

Choose one student to be in the “hot seat”. They sit in front of the whiteboard. Write a word (in the TL) that you’ve recently learnt on the whiteboard. The rest of the class have to describe the word without saying any elements of the word (like ‘Taboo’).

We used the names released by exam boards for the new GCSE and written boy/girl underneath to increase familiarity with the list of names. ( Again the idea is stolen from someone else but I can't remember who). It really works its magic ! They even say "bonjour / au revoir Alessandro "

1. Teacher writes down a sentence using one phrase/word from each column. Make sure it makes sense! 2. Students guess the sentence. 3. Teacher says how many columns are correct but NOT which columns. 4. Students continue guessing until they have the whole sentence right. 2/3
