So now (late afternoon) eastern Iowa's weather is even more interesting, with blizzard warnings, winter storm warnings, and winter weather advisories covering much of the area. We have the winter storm warning for snow squalls with little or no visibility.
A National Weather Service map of Iowa with a red blizzard warning in the north central part, a pink winter storm warning in the east central part, and purple winter weather advisories to the east and west.

The ramen made from whole wheat spaghetti was pretty much a success. The texture was just right, the flavor not quite as good. With a more strongly flavored sauce, it would have been very good.

Good morning, Mastodon friends! Here is my snow core. It came from my snow board, which I'd cleared off before the snow started yesterday evening, so it represents just the snowfall since yesterday morning. I'll melt it and measure the resulting water to […] [Original post on med-mastodon.com]

Wow, the "small" Iowa City-area No Kings event turned out to be several hundred people, and it was great to be part of it. Here are a few photos with commentary in the alt text.
The crowd assembles at the starting location. It is the grounds of a historic house, which is seen in the background. The weather is great -- blue sky with some big, white clouds. Here is part of the march. Although only half of the marchers are visible, it stretches for a couple of blocks. This part was on a side street, but most of the march was on a busy commercial street. We mostly got friendly honks and waves, with only a few middle fingers.Four characters in inflatable costumes greeted returning marcher back at the historic house. There were two sharks, a polar bear, and a dinosaur wearing a crown.

A route that we occasionally walk passes another yard where Halloween decorations abound. I took the full-yard photo this morning as we walked by. The one with Donny and the dragon is from a few years ago. The dragon's wings move, but Donny wasn't afraid.
A yard with many inflatable Halloween decorations -- two huge (maybe 8 feet tall) dragons, a skull, a winged ghoul. There also are some smaller decorations that aren't inflatable -- a couple of skeletons and some little ghosts.Donny sits on a stump a few feet away from a huge inflatable dragon with an orange belly and black-and-yellow wings. You can't tell from the still photo, but the wings move slowly, and plastic flames move in front of the creature's mouth. Donny is looking up at me attentively -- not freaked out at all by the scene just behind hime.
