The first draft tells the story. The second draft asks what the hell the first draft was doing.

Writing a novel is basically making up problems for imaginary people and then losing sleep trying to solve them.

May your imagination and creativity speak louder than your doubts as you write this week. ✨

You don't have to write a masterpiece today. Just write something your future self can build on.

People see 1 published novel. I see 43 drafts. Below is a screenshot of every version of Somewhere Between Lies that survived the last two decades. Originally, I planned it as a trilogy, but in August 2023, I decided to merge it into one story.

It was to push boundaries as a writer and create the impossible in an everyday setting.

Contemporary fiction. The one I published falls into clean romance / new adult / women's fiction. I'll be working on a contemporary fiction with magical realism next.

I'm trying to decide whether to work on one of my draft stories or start a new story 🤔

This is what amazes me about writing--same writing, but everyone reads it differently.

Just over six months ago, I published my debut novel. A huge thank you to everyone who has bought a copy or downloaded it through Kindle Unlimited. ❤️ SOMEWHERE BETWEEN LIES amazon.com/dp/B0GH75XHK9

Success isn't the day your book is published. Success is every day you refused to let your unfinished manuscript become another forgotten dream.

Kate Halena @katehalena.bsky.social · 20/07/2026

Every finished book is thousands of ordinary writing days that nobody applauds.

1111

Kate Halena @katehalena.bsky.social · 08/07/2026

You’re allowed to write slowly. Stories aren’t a race.

0141

Kate Halena @katehalena.bsky.social · 03/07/2026

Writing isn't about racing to the finish line. It's about leaving behind something that wasn't in the world yesterday.

Every unpublished manuscript is a secret. Every published book is a world opened to others.💫

Some days you write like a genius. Other days, you stare at a sentence for 20 minutes and delete it anyway.

Every writer faces doubt. Keep writing, even when it’s hard.

0222

Kate Halena @katehalena.bsky.social · 03/04/2026

Somewhere between doubt and courage, a writer opens their laptop and begins again. That is how every story starts.

I'm deciding on whether to rework one of the many drafts I have or start a completely new story... decisions 🤔

Kate Halena @katehalena.bsky.social · 13/03/2026

You don’t have to write a perfect chapter today. You don’t have to solve every plot hole. You don’t have to feel inspired. Just show up to the page. One paragraph. One sentence. One idea.

There is no single path in publishing. Every writer brings their own resources, choices, and vision to the journey.

Kate Halena @katehalena.bsky.social · 28/02/2026

A writer’s search history is either extremely suspicious or extremely boring. There is no in between.

It's been one month since I published my debut novel. Years of writing and editing. A major rewrite. Health setbacks. Doubt. Still, I did it. #PersistenceWins

20 years... in my spare time. I've just published it 😅 (it feels like I've published a diary because of how long I worked on it)

It was covered on TikTok--very distressing footage. I feel sickened & traumatised by it. I've seen comments claiming that she was trying to run over an ICE agent, but you can see she was scared & running away. I'm failing to understand why there were so many of them there for 1 woman?
