So, #Curethreads turns 5 years old this weekend. I really cannot believe it. In 2020 I had access to a textile mfgr in CA who outfitted sports players. They pivoted all their operations to make face masks for nurses, and took custom orders. I had 4 Cure-inspired ideas. #thecure #curethreads

I learned a lot about sea otters while conducting research for illustrating The Secret Life of the Sea Otter (2022, Astra BFYR). My favorite sea otter fact: these super furry shellfish eaters carry their favorite oyster shucking rocks in specialized armpit "pockets" for future use. 🦦💚🩵💙

Feeling refreshed and inspired by the working Revision Retreat at the Highlights Foundation, located on the homestead of the founders of Highlights Magazine. First time back in 8 years and it remains, as ever, a storybook setting, frozen in time. 📚

The forest path from the retreat Barn to the original Farmhouse at the Highlights Foundation is warmly lit with wildlife-friendly ground lights and flanked by deciduous and evergreen woodlands. It felt more like a pep rally than a political event in so many ways. Walz exudes this "favorite teacher, coach" vibe and I think he must have had some of his former students sitting behind the podium, because he repeatedly motioned to them. I must have been surrounded by teachers as well.

The Harris-Walz rally was FIRE. I stood in line for 2.5 hours in 92 degree heat with soupy 90% humidity, and I was lucky to get in at all. The line wrapped around 2 large city blocks at least twice, and kept getting longer. Full to the rafters with diverse, hopeful, and energized PA citizens. 🌊🌊

Author Laurence Pringle agreed, and we jointly petitioned the publisher. Sales/mktg had pushed for sloths bc they were "trending." Trend over long by pub date.🦥😬
