"You talk most like someone from New Jersey — about 57% of your answers match a typical resident." This tracks: I'm from New York, but close to the NJ border, as is my mother's whole side of the family. My father grew up mainly in Washington, DC, and I have some relatives from California.

My dialect map, showing that people from the Northeast U.S. talk the most like me and the Northwest least like me. The Mid-Atlantic region and coastal California are ranked kind of in the middle, sharing some similarities to my speech.

I just found this old packet of cucumber seeds I bought years ago. Apparently it got wet recently and the seeds all sprouted?! It’s amazing how distinctively they smell of cucumber already.

Can any of you plant-knowers identify this tall, stemmy boy for me? It started growing this spring as a “volunteer” out of a pot in which I’d grown spinach and cucumber in previous years, so at first I assumed it was a cuke. But it’s not developing the usual cuke features (tendrils, flowers, etc.).
