Today in adventures in the neighbourhood, my cosmos refusing to quit (PEI, Canada)
A white cosmos flower with a deep pink streak of colour around its centre. The photo was taken from above so the stems and leaves are not visible. It appears to be floating over the background of green.

a large oak trunk with a big v about half way up the picture has a little red squirrel tucked into the v, highlighted in bright sun. there is green grass and hostas in the background. the squirrel is holding an apple fallen from a nearby tree.

A ruffed grouse just bounced against my window - it seems fine, it's off now at the side of the house running around on the forest floor beneath the hawthorns. But I got a great look at its feathers while it took a breather in the clover.
A ground bird with various brown shades in its wing feathers, a whiter throat, a yellowish head and a distinct black stripe at the sub-terminal tail feathers. It's looking to its right, with a very alert gaze. It's sitting in a mix of grass and clover. Photographed on Prince Edward Island today.

doofus doggo Skippy who wore her nose down to pink skin trying to hide a bone.
A lean muscular big-chested lab mix in beige and black (mostly beige, with a darker stripe down the back, black ears, small round dark eyebrows )and a black muzzle which is worn down to tender pink from repeated attempts to hide a bone from me.

My dog caught a snow hare in the new dog yard yesterday and I felt awful (the hare squeal will haunt my nightmares) - it did get away but.. Today, Skippy nabbed a wee mouse in the house and I realize this is her dream life. Fuzzy smaller things she perceives as a threat.

That was a fun exercise in fucking up their data -because of course wherever possible I said Nah, not useful. Of course they designed the survey to be flattering -they always do. I found ways to still annoy them.
A snapshot of a survey with only questions 25-27 on screen. Question 25. Describe a recent moment where AI let you down. Next line, my answer, Always.
Question 26. What is the best thing AI has ever helped you to do? Easy answer. NOTHING.
Question 27. What is one thing that would most reduce your frustration with AI? (I'm gonna just have giant LMAO that they are so aware of the annoyance aspect that they just acknowledge it, HAHAHHAHA)
And I answered "If you could just fuck off out of the world, would be great.

I am in my first year here at my new home in PEI Canada and spend much of my days documenting what's already established here while I dream of future garden plans.
a piece of tree with bright green ovate leaves and a terminal cluster of red berries rests on a white lined page. It's a serviceberry aka juneberry aka saskatoon berry a branch segment with deep green heart shaped leaves spiralling the branch, with multiple small clusters of lime green globules which become flowers. the specimen is resting on a wooden surface. there are also oddly shaped paler green attachments to the smaller twigs that remind me of kidneys or fairy wings or maple tree samaras. it's apparently a highly fragrant linden tree.a cluster of tall green spikes topped with almost flat platter of bright yellow flowers in a galaxy like spiral. there's a bunch of white clover to the left, and behind a chain link fence there are two cedar raised planters filled with plants.

Time to do an update on the lawn to other project. I moved into the property in December, knowing there had been low maintenance on the lawn (which I wanted to minimize anyway) - the thatch was inches deep. It cost as much to remove it as it would have to dethatch it. So to clover I went.
A very vividly green field that appears to be mostly clover and a little bit of grass. There are small patches of higher growth, maybe weeds, maybe wildflowers. There's an old sad snowball shrub in the top right corner that desperately needs pruning.

I was gifted a truly gorgeous pottery ikebana container for a recent birthday, so I here's Ikebana 1. This vase is by the artist Peter Janson, owner of "The Dunes Studio and Gallery Cafe", open to the public at Brackley Beach PEI, Canada. There's a calla lily, a bee balm head and a red chard leaf.
A black and green ceramic rectangular piece of art which measures roughly 8" x 4" x 2" deep is mostly black on top and has a spiral green decoration on the left end which resembles petals or a shell. At the right end there is another green decoration which most reminds me of a lobster tail in shape. arising from right of the centre is a burgundy calla lily flower being hugged at it's base by a bee balm seed head still with it's leaves attached, which have streaks of crimson towards the seed head. To the left and behind the lily is a red chard leaf, almost as translucent as the calla lily - light comes through both. This arrangement is on a wooden surface. Indistinctly in the background there is a green and white Ikea poang chair with a floral design and black arms, a rocking chair with a tan seat, a big beige dog lying on a carpet near a round tan coloured coffee table, a small fireplace, a stack of wood in a curved holder, a table of chairs to the left of the fireplace on another carpet in what is otherwise wood flooring.

Update on the yard with Skippy watching a snowshoe hare graze in the new clover lawn -very happy with the coverage /decreased maintenance - I mowed today to get the grass patches down and was worried about the mower wheel dampening of the clover. Four hours later it had all sprung right back.

my auxiliary mower showed up again today to check my work - seems happy to keep working on the grass to help the clover grow.
A snowshoe hare (in brown summer colouring) grazing in a mixed grass and clover field -they are only interested in the grass, which works for me. PEI, Canada.

I have no idea why I keep getting new followers - am I an a cranky pack? My day was full of new flowers for the vase (peonies this time), and being highly entertained by my dog getting indignant that squirrels and snow hares share the land.
A large breed brown dog is sitting in an asymmetrical rust and yellow chair by a large window framed with white linen curtains. Out the window there is an indistinct view of lime green flora in the foreground, evergreens in the midground and a blue/white sky. Behind the dog on the green wall is a wood framed picture of white and red poppies. The floor is a mix of wood laminate and a textured rug in rectangular elements within a black edging - the colours include rust, yellow and beige. There is a yellow and rust coloured vase on top of the cast iron stove in the lower left corner. The vase holds a bunch of unopened white peonies.

My dog, Skippy, is not impressed with the new mowing crew. The snowshoe hare, in summer colours, grazes the verge of the patio-to-be gravel base. Amused it has a whole yard of grass to eat but these fronds are the tastiest. PEI Canada.
My dog, Skippy, a brown-haired large dog, seen lying on the floor by a patio door, is not impressed with the new mowing crew. The snowshoe hare in it's summer colours (also brown, with white soles of the feet), grazes the very sparse verge of the patio-to-be gravel base. PEI Canada.

My current fave, brought out of storage because PEI Canada decided to revert to late Winter instead of Spring.
A smiling white woman with salt and pepper short hair and deep laugh lines around her eyes is wearing a lime green turtleneck sweater with intricate cable patterning, two tone heavy-rimmed glasses which are pale pink on the bottom half and dark brown on the uppers, and a multi coloured hat with a fluffy mid-green border around the face and an elongated back cone in tones of rust, white and a grey-brown. She is sitting in front of a mint green wall, with brown velvet curtains by a window over her right shoulder. Over her left shoulder there is a large art piece with a thick mahogany frame, and the partial picture shown is in shades of brown and white.

I am spending hours every day trying to learn the new land I chose to live on. I went to a native PEI workshop last Saturday and learned I already have more than 20 native species here. I've lost all faith in Google images (such a fucking disaster to introduce AI to that portal) so now I watch.
I don't know what this is -there are discrete patches of it all over. Bunched upright growing very green thing.there is a lot of this plant growing under a big old white pine. 5 leafed basal structure, tons of them in the needle undergrowth of the pine.

Oh,I forgot to add the cottage garden pic from the condo I owned before I bought/renovated the cottage. Here is what nature can do, unrestrained.
I dunno what they all are, I threw a Packet of Western Canada Wildflower mix in the ground, fucked off to work for literally 3 months (so no regular watering, just rainfall) It was incredibly pretty to return to.

I just spent the last of my "play" money for the year ripping up a lawn I don't want to mow or manage, and instead there will be clover field and wildflowers. Best money I've spent this year. It looks like a mess now, but it can become what I did at my last garden space.
This was all deeply thatched lawn neglected for 5+ years ( I bought the property 3 years back, but lawn maintenance wasn't a budget priority EVER). So now it's all been peeled back (I have a monstrous sod pile that will feed my compost and garden beds for years), and reseeded with clover and native wildflowers. I'll update you as it settles in.A large breed light brown dog with a darker stripe down the back, dark ear and nuzzle, is looking out a sliding double door over a mixed landscape of bare red dirt, a bit of grass, a road and mixed deciduous/coniferous trees in the distance. There is a tray behind her of bright green seedlings, also a curved red and yellow fabric chair. She has her front right paw on a brown carpet with circular earthy toned decoration at the corner. The walls of the room are green. There are lots of windows, framed by what looks like a set of both white screen and ginger velvet curtains.

Skippy is having an awkward day, so am I. My shoulder hurts so walking her is hard/impossible. She's a solid 75+ lbs.
a large mixed breed beige dog is standing on a multicoloured earth tone carpet on a wood floor. behind her are multiple windows, some covered in white curtains and through the open window there is a mix os red dirt landscape. grass, what might be a driveway, big evergreen trees. In the foreground is the edge of an oddly shaped bulbous chair in earth tones (red, gold, brown, yellow). In the background is a dark coloured couch with a blanket on the seat, a small black fireplace and chimney, what looks like a mini wood stack to the left of the fireplace by a formica table with chrome legs holding a vase of yellow daffodils and other unidentified objects. There's a green chair with chrome legs by the table. The table and chair are sitting on a multicoloured rug, mostly brown, with circular and semicircular colour dot patterns. There's a low circular tan coloured coffee table behind the dog, between the dog and the window, holding a plant and what looks like magazines or newspapers. If I zoom in, I can see it's the Onion.

I have a ton of seeds now in clamshell covers, and some not. I Love seeds more than anything. They are hope, help, food, fuel, building materials.
A written grid of planted seeds with scribbled edges noting 3 planting trays and 5 pods in a separate metal tray. Tray One, top left, has 6 plantings of lemon balm, 6 of liquorice mint, 6 radish, 6 chicory, 6 spinach, 6 lettuce. The tray top right has 6 Dwarf sunflower, 6 lavender, 6 marigold, 3 catmint, 6 echinacea. The smaller tray has 6 basil, 6 arugula, 3 chamomile, 5 climbing nasturtiums, and 4 pods I've labelled pickle berries but I know that's wrong. (it's pickle bush cucumber). And because I am out of covered/climate controlled zones, I have done a random herb planting with no cover of anise, dill, parsley, summer savoury and winter thyme.

Learning about my new land I live on - experiments in seed head ID and wildlife occupying space with me.
A grackle (a blackbird like bird) showing its irridescent teal and aqua throat and nape colours in a teal birdbath with a fountain. The background is dense bare shrubbery. This is a shot of our resident snowshoe hare, currently moulting from white to brown. Poor quality pic taken through a screen window, but I was fascinated to see them under the bird feeder for the first time ever.Small (less than 8cm/3" tall) branching tiny shrub that plant ID thinks is a form of blueberry. A lined page of paper with a dead flower head, consisting of multiple flower heads with fluffy white seed kite heads. Plant ID apps suggest this is goldenrod. Seeds saved.

Nasa has a tool where you can get satellite pics that spell your name - not sure this will display well with the carousel, but let's try.
Pic 1 is a K of white ice in a brown rocky surround with a teal color to the river at the bottom of the picture - reported as the glacial landscape at Sirmilik National Park, Canada 72°05'01.1 N 76°48'42.9 W
(BUT also, in a separate ask with a different spelling of my name, the same picture reported to be Breiðamerkurjökull Glacier, Iceland 64°05'45.0 N 16°21'45.6 W") So my scepticism is on full alert. Still gonna post, because it's cool.
Pic 2 is an A, again looks like ice maybe covering lakes among varied woodland, reported to be at Farm Island, Maine 45°43'43.8 N 69°46'08.9 W
Pic 3 is a T shape of maybe buildings (there are grey rectangular shapes) among a t-shaped smattering of greenery in what appears to be a desert landscape. Reported to be at Liwa, United Arab Emirates 23°10'30.0 N 53°47'52.8 E

3 pots, 2 are copper in color, one is white, holding an assortment of kitchen herbs - a tall copper bucket has mint, and shallow wide copper trough has two rosemary plants and a dismal oregano, the squat white pot has a sagging sage. I built a bird feeder, built a wood mover, helped/not helped the person installing my range hood, bought seeds I realized I can't plant (yet) in the Maritimes, contemplated a very beautiful tulip. Pretty full day really, among all the angst.
A white tulip is almost fully unfolded in an ovoid wooden cutout bud vase, which sits on a wooden filing cabinet, the top in glancing sun, at the side of my wooden desk (also in sun) in the lower foreground. There is a peculiarly shaped chair in olive, rust and cream fabric on the right, a chair with chrome arms and a green and teal seat and armrests mid left. A carpet in maladjusted rectangles of burgundy, olive and cream leads the eye over the wooden floor past the circular wooden coffee table to two sets of double windows flanking a small cast iron woodier stove and chimney. Through the windows, blue skies and white birches dominate the view with a rust coloured shed partially visible in the leftmost window. There are what appear to be glass and wood pendant lights, with another flush light with a black surround containing a wooden centre. There is a sculptural bust of a pierrot clown in the far left corner of the room on an indistinct wooden furniture piece. There is a large art piece of a mostly naked man doing something unimaginable with a big stick to his right (is he clearing hay? is he oaring a boat? is he harpooning a rat? There is a long/tall metallic object leaning against the wall near the harpoon guy - looks like a complicated bird feeder with squirrel baffle just been built.

Little hawk slammed into a window today - he/she/they stood around for about 10 mins then flew off like nothing had happened. Looks like a Cooper's Hawk. Upping the urgency to get curtains installed to decrease the bird strike rate.
A small raptor (maybe 8 inches high). Dark back, striped black and beige tail in a solid wedge shape. Chest is striped in tan and white, with more mottled feathering in the upper chest and throat, still tan and white. Orange talons. Framed between two metal uprights of a deck side - sitting on a snow field with occasional wooden sprigs.

Yesterday the snow was gone, Today is hard ice Making tinsel in the grove.
A sky full of mixed grey clouds in layers above a grove of upright shrubs in dark grey/dark brown tones with ice globules gathering at the tips of the branches and the lateral branches beginning to ice up. The effect of the late afternoon sun makes the branches twinkle like they are covered in tinsel and tiny white christmas lights.

My kitchen cabinets finally arrived and it's sunny not snowing or blowing a gale, and I was able to find helpers to get the cabinets inside in an hour. I feel very blessed.
A yellow car is parked by two large irregularly shaped giant packages on pallets. The top half of each 5 foot x 4 foot x 4 foot pallet is covered in corrugated cardboard with the lower half looking like painted particle board. All of it is encased in sheathed plastic wrap. The delivery docket says this weights 1200 lbs total. There's snow on all the ground except the strip of road visible on the mid right of the pic. There are white birches and evergreens both behind the car and along the right side of the road. The sky is infinitely blue, the sun shining. I'm so lucky today was delivery day - there were many other days ahead and behind then this would not have been so easy to manage.

I just moved from BC Canada to PEI and I am struggling to adjust my expectations. As I'm currently under a blanket of snow, I might need to adjust them even further. I do LOVE the winter sun though, it's glorious.
A yellow car is mostly covered in a blanket of snow. The accumulation on the car seems higher than the multiple inches evident on the red shed behind the car and the black garbage bin in the foreground. There are lots of deciduous trees behind all this, with some scattered pines. There's a red tractor in the background. It's very sunny, with blue skies and bright shadows on the snow. The back yard with snow thigh-deep. The sky is blue, the sun is shining creating shadow stripe effects from lower right to mid left. There are multiple pines in the background along with scattered deciduous trees I don't know yet, and the leafless tree mid right is a giant lilac.

the ONION Volume 62, issue 2 showing the above the fold articles including the main headline of "340 million americans killed in botched training exercise" with the subhead of "US military mishap annihilates nation." There's also the teaser of J.K Rowling escapes Insane (cut off by the fold). And a picture of the orange tub looking more snow-kissed than usual, with startling whites UNDER the eyes, a white lower lip and snowy sparkles on his left cheek and neck. All the hair dye appears to have leaked into his facial skin, as his hair is definitively white, while his skin tone is rosy jaundice. Teasers on the left include a link to Olympics coverage, a commentary titled "Historians will look back on this moment as a time when lots of people got air fryers" and what seems to be a photo of a blue balloon poodle.

My appliances are delayed by a week so I'm into week five of living with no refrigerator. Early lessons learned mean that with a seriously cold snap due for a week, I can keep things frozen outside, and keep a small cooler with ice inside for other necessities. It's very pretty here. Amazing light.

I drove across Canada for two weeks, recently, and all I brought with me was treasure - art I love or made, my dog. Today I got to play with my treasures in my new home, and I am wildly happy.
A full terracotta sculptural bust of a sad clown by Sandy Caldow (Australian artist) with a backdrop of a vintage Ikea Gyllen 37.5" Tall Glass Wall Lamps Sconce (to be hung)This is the worst description I've ever done, but I am committed to alt text, so you get drunk me describing art badly. An original art piece of a serious white woman in a wolf onesie. There is a wolf head above hers, the snout acting like a visor, with the same dark fur cascading down her back and over her shoulders. I bought it in Vancouver, BC, in a cafe, it was the best upsell that server ever made. Yes, let me pay for my meal and can I buy the creepy wolf woman on the wall too, that you painted. Alongside I drum I made from I believe elk hide, and painted with traditional Canadian native colours because I only got to do this as a nurse on their reserve and I felt both honoured and awkward, which pretty much sums up my 8 years there. All on top of the most amazing carpet I've ever found on Marketplace. An Elba Modern Chocolate/Gold Area Rug (retails for a ridiculous price) - think I got it second hand for $80
