Hold on to your boa babe, I know a girl. Lefty, legal, unionist and Swiftie. Owned by pugs. Lamingtons must have jam. I pray to my lord and saviour, Eddie Vedder.

I'm not across this but I just want to be clear: a man's identity has been suppressed in court matter in which he is not charged/accused of any offence. Assume charges relate to who he was caught with? The query is why the police would apply for such an order for someone not a victim or perpetrator?

One of the best movies - absolutely LOVED it as a teen!

The Lark Ascending gets under my skin every single time. They used it in the film 'The Year My Voice Broke' and when I hear it, I cannot help but think of rural paddocks far from Australian cities, the quiet and the natural sounds. I adore that piece.

Easy. He falls into the ON rhetoric and betrays his own values, or he holds on to his beliefs and risks Hanson's wrath (and will leave them). The question is how long it will take - will he even make it to the 2028 election as a ON MP?

Given he hasn't lived in his electorate for years and he got tossed, no real need to keep it now eh Dutts? Now that the jig is up?

I don't care if it's a taxi, rideshare or friend - if they pulled into a bike lane they'd get a earful from me. So unsafe for cyclists and the cars, and anyone who might get out of the car. Absolutely stupid thing to do. Waymo are clearly stupid.

Gambling ads should be the same as cigarette ads - banned. If people want to engage, they can find what they're looking for, without having it advertised to them. Would happily see booze ads go the same way too.

Given they've just settled a massive class action in December, they're really on the wrong side of it all, aren't they?

Liam Bartlett lost the plot as a serious journo years ago. Shame, really, because once upon a time I thought he was one of the better ones who took his ethical obligation of fierce independence seriously.

I imagine there was alot of viewers going "no way. I'm totally going to defend myself on the stand!" Not knowing that probably gets them 25 to life or death row. But as my sister used to say when people said they're were doing something she thought was stupid: Good luck with your project.

Fkn TV shows make people think entering the witness box will fix everything. It will usually have the opposite impact.

Hence my point. I think teaching the theory is important but there are so many practical basics that are not taught and they should.

GOOD. I think courts are improving as the bench turns over to younger jurists but there's a lot of work to do.

I think it is incumbent on law schools to teach the basic "hows" of lawyering - writing advice, memorandums etc, so that in later assessments, having learned those basics, students can be assessed on content AND writing fairly. When they graduate, so many don't have those basic skills.

@wilful.bsky.social For mine it should be a first year, compulsory unit. When I was lecturing in law, the spelling and grammar was appalling and they don't teach students how to write properly - I hated when I had early law school assignments that I didn't know anything about structue, how to write.

Not sure about music but if they crack a jar of Vegemite, I'll sing like a canary. The smell of that stuff makes me want to rip my eyeballs out.

Vale Sir Anthony Mason. I disagree (strongly) with Kerr's sacking of Whitlam but the advice provided to him by Mason (and ignored) was legally correct. His presiding over the Mabo decision was a moment in Australian law, politics and society that should never be underestimated.

I remember once writing a very long advice to a client on a complex family matter and her sister (who was paying the bills!) called me to say thankyou for writing and setting it out in a way they all clearly understood - it made it much less foreign to them (as legal proceedings often feel).

Interestingly at La Trobe, we were told not to use latin unlessit was a term that was broadly understood - ie mens rea. We needed to know those key terms but rarely use them - the push towards plain English language in law was strong and I love it that way. So do clients.

I am all too well aware of what impact branches can and cannot have. Some of us choose to more actively engage than that, but I understand the point you make. I guess though, if people don't engage at grass roots, no change can ever be effected, however minimal.

I don't mind multi member seats but I hate our ACT system - it relies too heavily on name recognition and sees people are are simply not competent to be elected.

The Alcaraz/Zverev match tonight was one of the best tennis matches I've seen. Every game went the distance. I always feel really lucky to witness sport at that level every so often. #AustralianOpen #AO #tennis
