I don't know what a frequentist is, but let me fix my grammar: It's a made-up stat anyway. It can't be based on the kind of info that would allow the calculation of a percentage chance.

Most of those could work. But not the one with acronym inside the name. Something with rebate in it would also make sense.

I don't know of a name for returning half of taxes back to people. But it's a good concept. And we should try to come up with a good name for it.

Karl Widerquist @karlwiderquist.bsky.social · 31/07/2026
A reduced work incentive is not always so terrible. We had very high growth in the 40s, 50s & 60s, when we had high income tax rates. Also, as Herbert Simon argued, if productivity is twice as high as it was 40 years ago, we can tax people at 49% and still leave them with a greater work incentive...

Karl Widerquist @karlwiderquist.bsky.social · 31/07/2026
Benefits that decrease with income reduce the work incentive, but they don't create a perverse incentive unless benefits fall more than income rises, which happens when you lose all your benefits when your income rises above a certain amount. UBI & GBI are usually designed to eliminate that problem.
120
Karl Widerquist @karlwiderquist.bsky.social · 30/07/2026
You can effectively do the same thing with UBI if you tax income (rather than taking the grant back) as income rises. So, all GBIs have an equivalent UBI, but not all UBIs have an equivalent GBI. But not everyone uses the terms the same way.
130
Karl Widerquist @karlwiderquist.bsky.social · 30/07/2026
Usually, a GBI is gradually reduced as income rises. Fo example, you get the full grant only if you make $0. If you make $1, your grant is reduced by $0.50, or $0.33, or $0.25, depending on the benefit-reduction rate.

Karl Widerquist @karlwiderquist.bsky.social · 30/07/2026
Neither term is well-used enough in English to have a precise, stable definition, but you definition is close enough to how these terms tend to be used. However, your example isn't the kind of GBI people usually propose. ...
