Red-tailed Hawk, eastern NC, 11/21/24. Fun facts: When soaring and flapping wings, this hawk can fly 20-40mph, but when diving, they can reach up to 120mph. Their eyesight is 7 times better than humans and they can spot prey 100ft in the air (about 10 stories high). #birds #birdphotography

Northern Harrier 11/21/24, Eastern North Carolina. This is the only harrier in North America. This is a female. The males are gray above and have a dark trailing edge on the wings. In winter, Northern Harriers roost communally on the ground, often together with Short-eared Owls. #birds #photography

We are thinking he was a domestic goose and someone dropped him off. I have a friend who is knowledgeable about domestic ducks and she said this one is too heavy to fly, so someone dropped him off in this area. I have seen other Mallards in the area so maybe he will find a friend.
