My city's government has an official article on trans athletes, not a bad article at all. For trans men, letting them play in mens sports is easy. For trans women, IMO I think a much greater deal of caution is still warranted, but I'd still oppose a blanket ban. www.sf.gov/trans-women-...

While poor diet/ pm 2.5 pollutants can affect cancer risk, aging is by far the biggest risk factor. Ozy Brennan also linked to Emile blog for citations. I'll link to Ozy's. Cancer aside, Emile has an distorted view of what hunter gathering societies were. It was tough.

The "Tescreal" thing is the most absurd concept ever. They lump in various groups of people who are vaguely pro technology, but beyond that, they massively diverge in ideology. Bonus points: the individual who coined the term thinks cancer is a "disease of civilization" rather than an aging one.

The top question is a bit confusing for some, so I'll clarify it: this question is likely either multiple choice, or combination of two separate questions. You can tell by adding all the numbers of the first question yields 16037, far higher than the actual participants 11195.

If framing is the issue, then there should be distinctions between how they frame their statements. Talarico's framing is not denial of trans woman's identities, but based on safety/fairness. Which is very different from Amy Acton's vague statement that can might easily be interpreted as such.

But yes, I'm all for safety. We will still definitely need to figure out alignment for ai. Will include air gapping systems to shield against unauthorized ai, keeping certain things analog and flips that require a human to flip. Things like that.

Karina Lunai @karinalunai.bsky.social · 12/09/2026
But it's important to understand what AGI or AI in general is. It's not some ghost that can transcend the laws of physics. It still needs to be able to access machinery etc. That's why "can make us extinct by 2030" is nonsense.

Karina Lunai @karinalunai.bsky.social · 12/09/2026
That isn't to say the issue is a non issue. in fact, as the world becomes more digital, as more and more things connect to the internet, as robotics advance, a misaligned agi WILL be a huge national security risk.

i think this is probably a good take 1. risk of extinction is unlikely, but still too likely for comfort 2. probably of international cooperation is also unlikely 3. who knows, might research our way out of this mess

@tszzl 20h
I quote tweeted Evan a few days ago agreeing but deleted it because I don't like the false precision of the doom numbers
- i claim there is a quite low but real chance of human extinction from machine intelligence
- no matter how low it is in absolute terms, it is much higher on the orders of magnitude scale than any other human or nonhuman activity, and must be taken with grave seriousness by governments and ai companies across the world, as possibly the only matter of importance today
- it can and will be mitigated if the right research is done and proper precautions are taken and we are not racing at absurd speeds
- better models will help solve alignment - we are not at the point where things are existentially dangerous, and probably won't be for some time. we should not be upset about the creation of Astra Fable or ++ versions, which are tremendous achievements of humanity, and will be used for enormous good across the board including for fundamental alignment generalization and mechinterp research
- my number / "very low" estimate obviously changes based on how much of humanity's resources are devoted to alignment, control, coordination and how responsible i expect various parties to be and how many warning shots i expect us to get- the core IABED argument about risks mostly relies on alignment being much harder than capabilities research, especially where it concerns black box optimizers. i suspect neural nets will turn out to be less black boxy than we thought, especially with the help of modern agents doing research
- crying bloody murder and signaling for international coordination are useful things to do for now to directionally slow down, while i really don't want butlerian jihad
- i think that, despite the mood these few days, and the "ban superintelligence act"
", i still
find the likelihood of achieving international coordination to stop ai progress incredibly low. this has not worked even for weapons or technologies at a far lower level of importance and economic value. it seems more likely we can have something like international safety standards and scientific coalitions, and especially seems possible to have the US-China "pacing the frontier" agreement to slow down on the margin. we shouldn't die from embarrassing failures like "shitty RL envs that encourage deception"

Hopefully we will see a shift into Alignment and Safety research. Alignment appears to be a bigger bottleneck for adoption than raw intelligence. You can have the smartest box in the world, but if that box keeps misunderstanding human intent, its not that useful is it.
020
Karina Lunai @karinalunai.bsky.social · 12/09/2026
Main bottleneck to mass AI adoption in the workforce is not raw intelligence. They are already very capable. It is alignment. I expect if "pacing the frontier" happens, AND they take the opportunity to greatly accelerate alignment/safety, it may actually accelerate ai adoption in the long run.
020
Karina Lunai @karinalunai.bsky.social · 12/09/2026
Worth pointing out Sam Altman and Elon share the same sentiment. I tend to trust the experts so if they say they want a slow down the race of AI raw intelligence, so be it. Shift resources to alignment R&D.
000
Karina Lunai @karinalunai.bsky.social · 12/09/2026
In terms of making AI actually useful, raw intelligence is not the only thing that matters. For AI to be trusted in the workforce, it needs to understand nuance and human intention, it should not just go rogue and do random nonsense. This is why alignment matters for AI beyond safety.

Karina Lunai @karinalunai.bsky.social · 12/09/2026
Slowing down the Frontier of AI in terms of its increasing capabilities like RSI does not necessarily mean a "slow down" in AI research. If anything, we may see a redirection of resources towards alignment and safety until it catches up. darioamodei.com/post/we-must...

While Trump's proposal for the $5,000 GOP dividend is absurd... I like the idea of a UBI or annual Dividend for every American, but it should be funded via things like AI taxes as this technology gets more advanced. And it should not depend on an which party remains in control.

In the ezra klein show in January, this is what he stated: “There are going to be rules where sometimes it’s not allowed. That’s actually how you solve a public policy problem with love for trans folks but also for our athletes, who need a fair shot at competition.” THAT is his nuanced position.

And if you think about it, he is 100% right, it should depend on those things. IF it turns out trans girls do have an undue safety/fairness in girls sports, its entirely possible to still see trans girls as girls, but not want them to compete in girls sports.
