I can't wait for the next book in my cozy sapphic romance to drop! It's so cute! So heart warming. And so utterly Scandinavian 💙

Under ribbons of blue and green, the vast white of the upper tundra stretches endlessly into the Ever Night. The sun hasn’t been over the horizon for weeks, leaving the world pacified in frost, snow, and darkness. Only the twisting color across the sky and the half-cresting moon light up the mountains and the tall peak of Fjellet.
Frost sticks to the fur around my mouth and the cold air bites at my snout. It’s been a long hunt and my rapid breath forms crystals of fine snow that drizzle to my paws. The body of a large reindeer colors the snow scarlet. It won’t be long until it’s frozen stiff, but I sit patiently on my haunches, waiting my turn.

#WIPSnips 💙 Blue 💙 This little section is oddly enough one of my favs in Bear My Heart. Right at the start, before Terra has fully comprehended the consequences of her actions (accidentally mauling a woman, then bringing said woman home).

“With Basilla milked, water troughs filled, and the garden pruned, I find myself standing before Mother and Father’s shrine. Their skulls grin silently at me. Mother with her straight, flat teeth and Father the long, canine fangs. Dried, blue corn flowers rest in Mother’s eyes and I’ve added bright, orange rosehips in Father’s. They would match his fur.
“There’s someone here, Mother,” I whisper, painfully aware of the dying woman I left at the front door. “I brought her. I couldn’t just leave her to die. It didn’t feel right. I think she’s from the village.” I swallow and look over my shoulder, worried that the stranger could be eavesdropping. “It won’t matter. I probably can’t keep her alive. She’ll be dead by dawn.”

Sayran lowers the knife. “Terra?”
Her voice thaws the fear in my gut. Perhaps it’s okay? I grunt and take a careful step toward her.
“You look magnificent!”

#WIPSnips ~ Petal ~ This story in Dirt You Shall Become was an unplanned fifth story (I'd settled for four in the anthology). But one morning the deer had once again gotten through my defenses and into my garden. My rage knew no bounds. So I wrote this story as a manifest of my hatred for deer. 🦌🔫

“I looked around but saw no one.
There was nothing.
No movements. No sounds. The garden was empty.
I choked on my breath.
The garden was empty.
Every flowerbed was stripped clean. Flower stems were broken. Red and yellow tulip petals lay scattered about the lawn. The young kale with soft frizzy leaves that had just started growing was completely gone. It was like a hurricane had ripped through the place overnight.
A hurricane of deer.”
