As always, thank you for the updates. What does it mean? That life will change faster then we imagined. I suspect we were warned to what that entails.

The only detail out of line is that global consumption of oil seems to have dropped +7%. And electrification efforts seem reenergized by this bout of mayhem. So when only looking at climate, I'd be forced to cheer the effects. Money can be printed and circulated where carbon can't be sequestered.

Don't know any central Repo, but here in Belgium, we have public access to yearly plane pictures. They are used by gov to track building violations and other details, like planting or cutting trees. I some regions or counties might offer a similar service in USA.

More, more, more, ... Perhaps good old info campaign or ads. Bidets remain popular in warm climates.

Tbh, I find both bases cultivating and tolerating very narrow niches. La dispossession and resentiment are the life blood of politics in this age. Don't think that even changed so much from the past, only more diverse. Nietzsche and Guy Debord extended by René Girard and Larry Page.

Anyway. I'll stop this discussion. Enjoy your life, take care of yourself and those you love. I sincerely wish you well. Now we're just raging.

Did you take the treatment as a child or are you talking about something you don't even know? And the societal backlash on top of that. That pain is real. The price of fracking freedom.

Wtf do you think they attempt suicide? It is a hell of a ride. So what is moral? Encourage people to do it, or caution about the drawbacks? These deads are real, and only the tip of the iceberg of the human suffering. Yes, acid and heavy liquor also take a toll. Be honest about consequences.

Not all is hate. There is still pain, and if you deny that I don't know who you are.

My dear, a former lover was trans. Yes, she was in a lot of agony, and not because of memes or statistics. We both caution young ones not to go into it without long consideration because it's one hell of a ride. Choices have consequences, which you can't undo.

I consider it a luxury. Not an illness. Nobody has ever died from not getting a transformation afaik. A desire, in this endless sea of mimesis. To explore the boundaries of being. To change into something else. I do stand that there are considerable side effects, especially for children.

Anyway, we'll see what the future brings. Perhaps next generations will look at this as decadence, or perhaps it became the norm. I shared my opinion, you yours.

I say there are many ways to look at a problem. There are biases on any side. Requiring a treatment for puberty is ... far fetched from my pov. A former lover was a trans. She struggled with medical complications caused by it, in addition to the social stigma.

Getting really drunk or taking a trip might be walk in the park compared to a transformation. In Europe it is kinda controversial. Most doctors from on it, especially for children. A treatment has to weigh pros and cons.

Uncertainty, looking up to strong personalities, being rebellious. Puberty. Anyway, I know also a lot of people who are not trans propagating it. Some doctors make a tremendously good living from it. Like nose or boobs jobs, it's an advanced form of plastic surgery, combined with hormonal treatment

Adults, yes. Or do you believe it's good to allow kids to take heavy liquor or acid freely? The price of liberty brings its own harms.

I'll be honest and admit letting children do biochemical surgery which can not be reversed easily brings its own complications. Adults can make their own choices. Even if they are not always what you like. Plurality etc.

Did I say that? I said there are also other issues and letting politics be dominated by this niche issue is electorally detrimental.

Karel @karelvc.bsky.social · 13/07/2026
I'm just offering an opinion what might have motivated the withdrawal. Why wouldn't they care if they made the effort to compile, write and publish it in the first place? I'd rather solve other bigger problems then keeping trans as dividing issue. The price of polemics. Dsa is doing fine.

Karel @karelvc.bsky.social · 13/07/2026
Can you see that or is it just "if trans is not on the flag it's evil?"

Funding for all the other programs. Avoid costly legal fight. Avoid alienating other intrest groups by this becoming a public focal point, many don't care about trans as be all end all of rights but still care about other programs of AInt.

Amnesty International's mission is to conduct research and take action to prevent and end grave abuses of human rights. There is a long list of abuses. Trans is a minor one compared to some other ones.

Karel @karelvc.bsky.social · 13/07/2026
Why? They took the effort to make the report and publish it. Don't mistake being pragmatic about priorities with being anti rights. The world is not only about trans.

There are fuel shortages in +85% of the regions. Ban on sale to citizens in the Krim, but that is more a logistical issue. And harvest/vacation season is just starting which causes a yearly spike in consumption.

I am hesitant for subsidizing it broadly. Usually this encourages consumption.

I am one of those. What you don't use is usually infinitely more efficient. Green ethic is widespread. I'm one of those puritans who only heats when it's below 12. Most of the elders in my family who moved to an apartment were confronted with this constraint. They do not stand the heat as well.

We are moving to pumps, but from a policy pov it is not wise to have both fossil heating and AC. If you make a case for daytime cooling that would be great but now you are just raging unconstructively.

Karel @karelvc.bsky.social · 30/06/2026
No, only at home. Not at work or public spaces. I don't understand why you are so angry. During heat wave we had negative prices during the day and historic peaks during the evening. It's not like we don't have ACs. You do know constraint on a the utility grid.

There is the difference that we rarely cool as much (like 25 or 27 is good enough during warm periods). No sense in cooling to 21 when it's 35 outside. Moving between such temperature extremes has its own drawbacks.

Ah yes, I read several of his papers 3 years ago. He made quite a fuss. I'm not well versed enough to evaluate the Ceres data. It's indeed one of the most grim predictions I came across.

Is that a reasonable assumption given the projections? That is +0.5 in a decade. I don't think any of the major models claim that. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Net metering (so I can produce when the sun shines and consume when it doesn't) <> no subsidy? 😳 Love what happened, but no scheme is a far stretch.

Many pubs are taxed on purchases instead of sales. So the taxman will assume you sold it as wine. Matthew and the other guests might have cherished the water as it lulls the intoxication, and hangover.

Am not an expert, but people are often exposed for long times to much higher levels (1-3k ppm) then the atmosphere (truck drivers, office workers). So what are the tests measuring: work habitat and habits or atmosphere. If the study does not account for these changes ...
