In light of all this, I will probably keep the lights on for a few months with bug fix releases (out of respect for the kind 50 users who bought it there), but probably won't be investing any significant time on the Android version, to focus what little time I have on the iOS version… Sorry 🙇

Google's endless bureaucracy, fees, and the required tax accountancy, mean that KB Android is literally costing me money *before* even considering the 100s of hours I spent coding it… Meanwhile, being a latecomer on the store, with zero reviews over 2 months, guarantee it obscurity…

[ranty details:] Play Store is quite famously a lot less easy to sell on. Especially given my preference for avoiding underhanded subscription pricing… What can I say, y'all are cheap 😉 (and yes, making it free and charging people a monthly fee is probably the solution, but meh)

This is also probably the latest #android version in quite a while 😞 As an experiment, the Android port has been a resounding failure, unfortunately: ~50 downloads and a *single* review in the Play Store, over a 2 month period… Which makes it very difficult to justify the time investment 😢

A new version of KanjiBox (3.2) has been release to both iOS and Play store, with a few bug fixes and improvements: * Stroke recognition on KanjiDraw is now a lot more lenient on small variations * Flashcards can be filtered by stats * Streaks can be rescued #kanji #japanese

Note: this new online app is packaged as a Progressive Web App (PWA). While this makes the experience a little less smooth (mandatory db download on first install), it will allow me to provide most of the same features as in the mobile versions.

Recently a friend asked me how much I was charing for KanjiBox, when I said it went for $4.99 or equivalent, she seemed surprised: "that's quite a lot, for a study app"… Took us a minute to realise she thought I meant *as a monthly subscription*… 😂

KanjiBox is and will always remain a *one-time* payment app. Subscription pricing is a great way for publishers to charge a lot more, while simultaneously appearing cheaper. Companies and VCs love that model. As a user, I thoroughly despise it. And have no intention to ever move KanjiBox to it.

Thanks for your support! As of the next release (out in a few days): cards will be sortable by progress (struggling first), which should allow you to easily focus on them. Note that Drills *automatically* do that and will always focus on your lower-scoring entries (it's the whole concept 😉).

Hi, thanks for reporting this. This is a known conflict with the "Reduce Motion" accessibility setting. I've finally managed to fix it and it will be in the next update (available on the Store as soon as Apple approves it). Sorry for the inconvenience in the meantime :-/

While the code has (thankfully) iterated a few times, the principles of KanjiBox remain the same: spaced-repetition system, with fully algorithmic (no AI) selection of similar/confusing answers to make the drills harder. (full disclosure: I *do* use agentic AI in my IDE, but not vibe-code slop)
