The heat wave in France has been beyond terrible: 41°C (106°F) for two days, then 39°C (102°F) for another couple of days. It's been so hot I can still feel my brain working in slow motion. Temperatures are starting to come down, but indoor temperatures take a while longer to follow suit, too.

Trying to get some coolness with multiple fans, water and just being down to minimal underwear.

I guess I just wanted this to be a bit of a PSA. Bigots can be hiding in your own communities, acting friendly while spreading mistruths about you and your peers behind your backs. I don't know what to do about it though. I've even seen some of my own old friends slide down that dark path. It sucks.

Here's a compilation of what I saw, for people to see that I wasn't overreacting. I didn't even dig that much as this is all from just -this month-, and doesn't even include other inflammatory rhetoric about topics I don't know enough about to judge. His Discord was clean, his Twitter was... this.

I decided to make a comic strip out of an anecdote from some time ago that left a bit of an impression on me. I've become more socially aware over the last few years, more able to decipher red flags and dogwhistles, and it's been surprising to see just how close bigots can be, hidden in plain sight.

Me: Here's a new piece, hope you'll enjoy.
Discord Person 1: Why does Bluesky only provide WebP?
Me: Huh, I didn't notice. I guess I should send JPEGs directly.
Discord Person 2: Good idea, Bluesky is so cringe anyway.

Me, thinking: ...cringe? That's oddly specific and unprompted. It has its quirks but I much prefer being here than at the proverbial Nazi dinner table... Speaking of which, that person doesn't happen to have an account on...

Here's another remaster, right on time for Easter. Valina gave Dana some chocolate eggs (and then they had seggs). I haven't been posting much lately cause I've been working on some 3D modeling and coding stuff. Hopefully I'll be able to share some of that at some point sooner than later.

I'll keep the current list up for a bit longer but I'll remove it afterwards. Truth is, having a 3000+ user list simply existing on my account does make certain bits of the Bluesky interface considerably slower, and I'd rather keep that isolated somewhere else as a result.

I'll link to mine here as well. bsky.app/profile/kana... It started as a simple process to weed out a few trolls but turned into a massive undertaking to add all of the accounts spamming the same stuff over and over, all verified manually. I don't know for sure how many are in there at this point.

Do you have some kind of tool or method to make the process faster ? I realize on my own list that the longer it gets, the longer it takes for the moderation buttons to even appear in the first place. Even with some automation, it becomes a hassle from my experience.

Sometimes they really do spend time writing posts/replies that aren't just copy-pasted, but then their username is just a slur with some numbers (not sure why Bluesky even allows it) and bio is something like "here to own the libs". Some real whiplash when witnessing their behavior.

Here's my own, mostly focused on obvious trolls going for that one spam phrase and similar ones. I check each account by hand and then use an automated script to add them to the list in bulk, making the process a bit less painful. @bsky.app Currently, I think that user moderation tools are ill-prepared for targeted attacks of this scale. Too many clicks, too much waiting for buttons to appear, some bugs. I built an automated tool to help with the process, but it regularly runs into snags like failing to find users that exist.

Example of a random bug where a user is searched by handle through the Add function in Moderation lists but can't be found despite that user existing.

I have been at work building up a massive block list for as many of them as I could find, but they just keep coming. I try to keep it updated but catching them while not misfiring is an ordeal. So my analysis of the troll situation... it likely all started from an infamous "anti-woke" Twitter account that spread misinformation about Bluesky, leading to a brigading campaign, likely by that account's followers, against this site. Easily recognizable by repeated, low effort calling cards.

A post by "End Wokeness" on the other platform on November 17, claiming to have been banned from Bluesky "within the first 30 seconds for posting a biological fact." This is outright impossible given that Bluesky moderation is extremely strained at the moment, with the Safety team mentioning about 3,000 moderation reports/hour as of November 15.

An example of one of the troll accounts, simply called "X is better" with a couple of lazy attempts at transphobic rhetoric as only posts.

I have been trying this, the problem is that the waiting time is very inconsistent... sometimes almost instantaneous, sometimes more than 2 seconds. I'm looking into opening a new tab into the moderation list and add the account through that interface to see if it's more consistent.

I've been looking into this myself by learning how to use the Automa browser extension, but a snag I've been running into is that the button to add an account to a block list can take something like 2 seconds to appear, while it checks whether the account already is in the list or not.

Oh, I see they've been doing the same I've been doing. I've been feeling my own block list using the same manual methods, but I would really love for there to be some kind of mass blocking tool as the process of opening each individual profile is tedious.

That one came spontaneously from a conversation back in 2019 and I still kinda love the concept of Splatoon-Gorgons. Thinking about it just now, I could imagine stealth missions where you have to stay hidden in ink while in their field of vision.

I have redone this picture so many times over the years... I thought I was done with it in 2021, but there was still more I could do to improve it. That said, I think I'm done with it at this point... If I do fanart again anytime soon, it would still probably be FF7-related. I loved Rebirth to bits.

That one was a bit more involved... didn't have that little moon bunny in the original 2018 version, but I felt it was a fun little touch to add. I made the original picture back when the whole "Earth-chan" thing was all the rage, but I didn't want to use the same tired old design so I made my own.

I thought this was a good picture to remaster with Halloween coming up, as it was heavily influenced by Alien: Isolation when I drew it back in 2021. It was particularly tough to work again on this though, as it was more painted than drawn, which I don't have quite as much experience with.

Jumping back to 2021... another picture I couldn't look back at without cringing, that I feel looks a lot better with a redrawn face. I really didn't pay as much attention as I should have to paler skin colors ; which is kind of necessary for some characters like Terra. Well, you live and learn.

Another rework (from 2019 this time) where I feel like redrawing the face entirely (and the hair to some extent) really brought it together. Going more anime-ish just makes characters more endearing to me, I don't know why I took so long to go back to... where I started artistically, looking back.

Looking back, I did mostly fanart back in 2018... and sadly quite a bit of it was from a series that has since fully disappointed me and that I do not want to look back to. Still, Kingdom Hearts remains one of my favorites to this day ; in fact, I replayed 2 recently. So, here's a revised Anti-Aqua.

Back to 2017 art, a lot of it was related to a game project I was working on that didn't pan out in the end. Drew quite a few assets for it between concept arts, model references, UI elements and other artwork, so I decided to clean them all up a bit and drop them here.
