The Digital Circus finale theatrical run has been extended from 4 days to 2 weeks and I'm not sure if people know what this could mean. The main Oscar qualifiers for Best Animated Feature are that the movie is at least 75% animated, runs in a theater in at least one of 6 major US cities for a full

Fathom Entertainment has extended the showtime dates for ‘The Amazing Digital Circus: The Last Act’.

The film event is now slated to release from June 4th to June 18th, one day before the worldwide release of Episode 9 on YouTube.

Oscar-qualifying release
An Oscar-qualifying release, sometimes also called four walling, is the nominal theatrical run of a direct-to-video or direct-to-digital motion picture to meet the minimum eligibility requirements of the Academy Awards.

Because the Academy Awards require theatrical showing of an entrant film for award consideration, many productions unable to achieve non-video or non-digital release nonetheless screen in a very limited number of theaters in order to qualify for possible awards nomination. In many cases, the producer will pay the theater to screen the film.

The requirements for an Oscar-qualifying release as of 2025 include a film being shown for one-week in a theater located in Dallas, Texas; Los Angeles, California; New York, New York; the San Francisco Bay Area; Chicago, Illinois; Miami, Florida; or Atlanta, Georgia. To be considered for the Academy Award for Best Picture, a more stringent theatrical showing requirement is in place, requiring showing in multiple cities.

Some independent theaters provide producers "Oscar-qualifying" packages. For instance, as of 2025 the Roxie Theater in San Francisco, California charges makers of short films $950 to screen their production for one week in order to achieve awards eligibility.

RULE SEVEN
SPECIAL RULES FOR THE
ANIMATED FEATURE FILM AWARD
I. DEFINITION
An animated film is defined as a motion picture in which movement and characters’ performances are
created using a frame-by-frame technique, and usually falls into one of the two general fields of
animation: narrative or abstract. Some of the techniques of animating films include but are not limited
to hand-drawn animation, computer animation, stop-motion, clay animation, pixilation, cutout
animation, pinscreen, camera multiple pass imagery, kaleidoscopic effects created frame-by-frame,
and drawing on the film frame itself. Motion capture and real-time puppetry are not by themselves
animation techniques. An animated short film has a running time of 40 minutes or less. An animated
feature film has a running time of more than 40 minutes. In an animated film, animation must figure in
no less than 75 percent of the picture’s running time. In addition, a narrative animated film must have
a significant number of the major characters animated. If the picture is created in a cinematic style
that could be mistaken for live action, the filmmaker(s) must also submit information supporting how
and why the picture is substantially a work of animation rather than live action.

At least they’re way better than the original channel because they actually do credit the creators (useless promotion time) I’m working on an official comic dub studio based in NJ and it’s also rated 15+ (but mainly mean for the Vocaloid community) (and some rare times I might make it for E)

It's an overcorrection of most adult animated shows and a lot of animated kids shows on traditional networks being comedies. There are quite a few indie animators doing comedy stuff, but most of it either gets ignored by Animation Twitter or are big but ignored by many outside their audience.
