Every pen I've bought for writing (ballpoint, gel, etc.) has been awful. They start jamming within minutes, and end up being completely unusable before long. The best one I've had, I think, was a freebie from a bank. Is this a normal thing? Or am I just getting unlucky?

It sounds pretty considerate to me! I'm having a sort of similar predicament... Wisdom says to disable keyboard inputs when a controller's connected, but that seems weird to me. What if I want my controller connected, but I also want to use the keyboard? Why do I have to disconnect my controller?

Absolutely! I'd really like to add some sort of controller support to my game. It's just a case of making the layouts for both the controller and the keyboard feel natural. (Which key is most appropriate for Select? Etc, etc...)

Shift and Ctrl being A/B (for lack of a better explanation) is very old-school. Those were definitely the defaults in the tutorials I followed back in the day, but I doubt anyone really uses them for games any more. Maybe Shift as crouch, or something...

That's very useful! Thanks, Snow. See, I like Z as my confirm and and X as my cancel... and the games I like generally don't use many more buttons than that. I think keyboards either offer lots of different keys that do the same thing, or are a bit more literal (like R for restart).

Ah, but I mean - on the keyboard! Haha, don't worry. It's such a silly question. It's because I'm not really certain what the default layout for PC games is. I'd say Shift is classically 'A', but StickyKeys is awful. And I refuse to believe anyone living in 2026 expects Spacebar to be the one.

Well... Actually, I've made it even more confusing. Let's say you've booted up a PC game, and you need to get through the menus. Which keyboard button do you expect to be 'confirm'? Which one is 'back/cancel'?

I realise that I've made this confusing... Or, rather, Xbox/Nintendo/Sega have made this confusing. Maybe the PlayStation layout is clearer! I agree with your placement of the face buttons! But I meant: if you're using WASD/the arrows to move around, where would you expect the button inputs to be?
