Hey folks! I disappeared 6 months ago, because I’m terrible at focusing on work and paying attention to social media at the same time. 🙃 I’ve had some recent shows and just finished the Philadelphia Museum of Art Craft Show. It’s been a wild ride but some new work has come out of it!!! #ceramics
A highly textured pottery jar with red, white, and yellow wild clay textures in the foreground and a variety of earthy colored pottery forms in the background. A highly textured bulbous pottery vase with an intentionally broken jagged rim, with red, white, and yellow wild clay textures in the foreground and a variety of earthy colored pottery forms in the background. Six bud vases, each shaped and textured like a rock or mountain range. Two are earthy red with a different texture of red wild clay. Two are semi-glossy textured black with red wild clay. Two are an earthy orange-yellow with volcanic ash sprinkled over their texture. Each is a unique shape. The artist in a brown open weave sweater smiling for the camera with a small red and tan abstract creature sculpture smiling into the camera next to her.

I go through periods where I post every day, and then long stretches where I basically forget social media exists. Is that what being an early 80’s baby is??? Anyway, working on a bunch of these for a local florist shop today. #vases #everydayhandmade #pottery #pottersofbluesky #ceramics

Meeble’s creature friends were all adopted yesterday and now she’s lonely. I keep telling her that her family is out there waiting for her. I didn’t anticipate feeling legitimately sad for a lonely animal sculpture. Wanna be her family? Adoption info in the ALT. #pottersofbluesky #pottery #ceramics
A mythical animal sculpture sits on a bed of leaves. It has big sweet eyes, a fish mouth, a narwhal horn, seal fins, toad spots, and a beaver tail all in dark clay.

Meeble is an adult female rare Narwhal-Toad/Seal-Beaver mix up for adoption. She really loves kisses and will purse her fishy underbite for you day and night. However, she has no idea where her horn is most of the time and should always be supervised around small children and other animals. Meeble has been known to steal household items and use them to dam doorways, but her dams are artistic and comfortable, to be enjoyed by all. Adoption fee $245 plus transport costs. A round moon-shaped vessel sits atop a stack of books including one about wild clay and one about oasis desert living. #pottersofbluesky, who else has textured, raw surfaces and has to sand their entire pot? Tricks for making it faster/putting less strain on your body? Diamond sanding pads for 50 pots over 2 days isn’t sustainable. Image tax of a late 2024 piece. Photographing new pots today! #pottery #ceramics
A white vase sits on a wooden table with a black marbled background. The vase is taller than it is wide, and it has an elegant, subtle curve at the bottom, cinching into a narrow neck that then widens out again at the top. It is tipped to the side. I call it a Sway Vase. The texture is similar to stucco with a dark base and mottled white over the top.

Everyone is glazed and in the kiln! If all goes to plan, I’ll have 5 days to clean, sand, photograph and pack for Baltimore… the epitome of luxury! These vases have nothing to do with this but it feels like they’re celebrating with me. #pottery #ceramics #pottersofbluesky #potterwins #potteryvase
Two vases, the left slightly taller than the right, sit on a wooden table in front of a black marbled wall. Each vase has an elegant low wide curve that narrows into a skinnier neck before widening back into a trumpet-like opening. They each tilt slightly away from each other. Each is black with heavy texture and drips of bright red running down their sides. I call them “Sway” vases.

900 of you follow me? Thank you! I’m overwhelmed by the sense of community here! I figure it’s time to show my face, but in the studio I mostly look like I fell face first into a mud puddle. So here I am living my dream by meeting my new best friend, Ms. Humphrey. #meetthemaker #pottersofbluesky
A very happy, brightly smiling, redheaded woman dressed in a black sweater, jeans, and black boots crouches in a large, dirt-floored sanctuary enclosure. Her left is bent near her chin, holding a few leaves of spinach. Her right holds the rest of the plastic box of spinach. In front of her, between her knees is a small capybaras, head pointed up toward the woman’s face, stretching to reach the spinach gift. The capybara is young, less than a year, and maybe only 30-40lbs. Much smaller than full grown. It is adorable.

The Ceramic Sculptors pack is up over 50 artists now, so thought I would reshare. They’re all so inspiring! #potterystarterpacks #pottersofbluesky #pottery #ceramics #sculpture go.bsky.app/BNKw9a6

Pottery peeps: have we considered starting a hashtag for #potterystarterpacks so that we can post them easily for folks who want to take a look? Maybe even make a feed out of it (someone more tech savvy than me) so that we can see when new ones are posted? #pottersofbluesky #pottery #ceramics

I am in awe of the sculptors I’m seeing on here! I’ve been dabbling recently in entirely made up animals, so thought I’d introduce you all to Dale, a Sloth-Nosed Fennec Dragon who loves cuddles and only breaths fire on special occasions. #pottersofbluesky #potterysculpture #animalsculpture #pottery

Making a pack of Potter’s Resources. Kiln/tool makers, trade pubs, major clay centers, ceramics galleries. Let me know if any places join! (I can’t remove myself from the pack so please know I’m not being arrogant thinking I belong in it. 🤣) #pottersofbluesky #pottery #ceramics go.bsky.app/2kgtxYM

If you’re anywhere even remotely accessible to upstate NY, go to this Andrew Sartorious workshop at the Oki Doki studio in Germantown! I took it last year, and it was soooo good. Andrew originally learned pottery in Japan and he knows his stuff on teaware. www.theokidokistudio.com/workshops-1/...

Hearing Kyla Toomey speak about how she creates movement in what would otherwise be rigid pots made me remember how much I enjoyed this experimental form from a few months back. I need to play around more with #sculpturalpottery. I also need more hours in the day. #pottersofbluesky #potterythrowing
Wheelthrown and altered pottery vase with sculptural indents and curves. Heavy dark texture with a layer of translucent white slip.

Color tests round 1. 😍 2% stain in porcelain slip on dark clay tiles. Planning to test in 2% increments up to 8-10%. Aiming to land on 5 or 6 colors in the end. Currently loving the darker greens. Happy to share stain info. #coloredslip #masonstain #pottersofbluesky #testtiles #pottery #ceramics
20 dark clay test tiles. Each tile is 1/2 raw and 1/2 covered in black groggy texture slip. Each has a different shade of all of the colors of the rainbow painted on it in slip. Both one layer and two. With a strip of clear glaze down one end.

One of last year’s early texture explorations. I love the subtle white on white drips, but I’ve since been exploring a more layered effect, too. I can also see this with a bit of sage green drippiness. So many ideas, so few hours. #texture #texturedpottery #pottersofbluesky #pottery #ceramics #clay
“Winter Moss” curvy vase. Medium-sized with textured sand/stone-like slip that has a mossy appearance. Translucent white slip with more opaque drips.

I might be biased because he’s my hubs, by Kyle’s work is worth a peek. His terra sig layers make you wanna touch. Plus his willingness to stay in corporate so I can do this thing I love full time deserves the biggest shoutout. #pottersofbluesky #terrasig #pottery #ceramics bsky.app/profile/kdce...

More pinch-formed teabowls. A rare foray into bold color for me. I tend to lean more earthy. But experiments beget experiments, and now I have about 100 colored slip tests in the works. Aiming for more layered subtlety but I do love these! #pottersofbluesky #matchabowl #teabowl #pottery #ceramics
Fire and Ice teabowls. Inspired by my time in Iceland. Pinch-formed matcha bowls in a dark groggy clay with white and red textured accents.
