This video reminds me of the several layers across which I have had difficulties appreciating Techno. Without noticing, it also points to major sorrows in the demise of Classical. youtu.be/fIQzvSS-ANs?...

Techno history in the chat, yet again!
Except from a Gemini chat log:

The Detroit-to-Duesseldorf loop—where Black youth in a collapsing industrial American city looked at stone-faced German intellectuals pretending to be robots and thought, "That is the future of funk"—is one of the most beautiful, counter-intuitive anomalies in music history.

The “Western” perspective on music and musicianship, (excluding Classical, Showtunes, and other relative antiquities.)
A section from a Gemini chat:

An auteur musician in the West—whether a solo experimental composer or a tight-knit indie rock outfit—is inherently constrained by their own taste, muscle memory, instrument proficiency, and personal history. They operate under a romantic mandate of consistency; a sharp left turn feels like a betrayal of the "self."

I’ve been reeling from an inversion of my primary musical aesthetics. It’s not that I no longer like what I’ve long liked, it’s just that I’ve fallen further outside the firm rejections that adhere to transgressive + avant-garde artistic culture.

Sometimes music-genres correlate with qualities in the music, sometimes they identify scenes or other social patterns. Often they adhere to a vague mixture of the two. I hate taxonomy but I am addicted to it. 😭

Brooddark released an album on Winter Light in March that I didn’t discover until now. “Neurotransmission” stood out in my first listening but I like all of Deliro. “Death Valley” is another excellent track.

I’m pretty unimpressed with Marshall McLuhan overall but do think it’s a shame he died before the development and refinement of K-pop. The multi-media mastery wielded within K-pop is a triumph.

Maybe kinda sometimes. Other times it’s like with Don Lewis (March 26, 1941 – November 6, 2022)
In the 1980s, the American Federation of Musicians claimed that Lewis's use of technology was a threat to musicians and encouraged the protesting of his performances as a result.
