I swear you'll make the best decisions you ever have while chatting in a kitchen making things that look like this. Idk what it is about cooking but it tickles my brain and makes it release all my good ideas

Good thing my friend group doesn't do those first two and we basically agree on the third so discourse is limited. _Does_ mean we have to get creative sometimes to keep chatting lmao

I think I am going to clear my desk, give Astra access to my Robot Arm, and just tell it to get itself a body glhf Astra _seems_ capable enough to do it, and I am reasonably confident the tools to make it in principle are out there (even without human teleop/demonstration)

Sol just doesn't get the vision, its always "let me find you the realistic first demo" - man I want the vision, get yourself some grandeur! This is why I like to talk to Astra. It is capable of taking my unreasonable request, talk to Sol, and give something approximate (or talk me out of it).

@jyc.dev 👋 you seem very interested in health/workout/sports on ATproto, so figured you might be interested in joining here roomy.space/did:plc:syiz... & meeting some more people :) Hoping we can get a shared lexicon for the foundational stuff for all health/sports/etc apps at some point

Yes safety is maybe not a primary problem with nuclear anymore (it depends imo, what level of mining Tech you compare to what nuclear tech but w/e), nuclear still doesn't seem worth it.

Would be interested in sources for all of these claims, my priors are exactly opposite ^^ Seems like Nuclear is slow, heavyweight & expensive, while solar is distributed, flexible & only getting even cheaper?

Prime Agent is unreasonably good. Especially with the (newish) change that bash now returns a handle the agent has to check / poll / etc, somehow most models are insanely good at composing little scripts that save an insane amount of tokens

Another really common one people don't seem to know is Shift + Tab, which does the reverse of Tab, and also works for selections (just like tab)

Looked into @zed.devs Delta. I think it is very good, similar to zed, but I just don't want to use the harness. A good harness is very important to me, and to me it seems the Delta harness is pretty bad. The UI is truly great, and if I could have that on top of any harness I would do that.

(Also I'm guessing here, there's a million shitty things they can do, and fuck em. But given the information shared there's nothing that indicates this is particularly nefarious, to me. At least not more than hiring processes are already etc)

Like okay, you do you ofc? But like, this is not even forced, I'd understand it then, but this is just an optional thing. It's pretty much just Speech-to-text similar to answering machines, but on crack. Have I gotten frustrated with the goddamn answering machine, yes. Is it a bad thing if optional?

I think the Motorola devices hit a good spot in price & compat. They are reasonably cheap, but run a good Android that everything works. (Does mean they aren't great for testing, follow Haileys advice for that :))

PSA: universal basic income / guaranteed minimum income is a form of systemic relief, not systemic change. The former makes room for the latter, but there’s no theory of change in UBI, it’s just a patch fix to avert violent collapse. The steady erosion of agency continues until we OWN STUFF again.

Yeah, while I was typing that I was kind of expecting that one to not go down well - but yes of course there can be use cases where it works well, but it should definitely not be the standard way to do abstractions (like OOP)

I'm convinced FP is objectively the correct way to program. - Fuck loops, get yourself a recursive function (+ tail recursion) - Pattern matching > dynamic dispatch - Monads

I am much much more concerned with the other side of this coin: The machines required for modern (competitive) textile manufacturing are not available to the common folk. We must seize the means of production & not give up those we already have.

What's the alternative? Make some kind of institution that everyone trusts? Yes giving everyone a nuke is probably a bad idea, but at least it makes it obvious everyone needs anti-nuke defenses. I don't see a future where this new or repurposed institution can be reliably trusted.

But I don't yet have the system to get the agents to actually do the work. I don't want to lock agents into a tight cage and get relatively bad results, but letting them run requires a high level of oversight?
000
Kai Jellinghaus @kaij.party · 13/09/2026
Thinking a lot about coming up with a system to get more work done with agents. Feels like I should spend my time roughly like - 70% high level concept - 20% scanning/reviewing specs/plans of agents - 10% trying whether it works / code review

No offense to @kira.ws but how can she have an opinion on this? Not like she could've used or really extrapolate personal experience to keyboard/trackpad use/touch/feeling? The feeling/sensation of touch seems quite fundamentally human? (Sorry @kira.ws I don't mean to be ablist or something ^^)

I get the sentiment but I think the more practical outcome is that all solution architects act partially as FDEs, as they can now do many more customers in a short time & spend some time on helping improve the main product. Also as knowledge about the actual core code becomes less relevant.
000
Kai Jellinghaus @kaij.party · 10/09/2026
Kind of sounds like solution architect at that point? The idea behind FDEs is that they make minor-ish adjustments to the software, know details etc, then integrate the new experience into the main product. (At least that's my understanding?)

I need a proper graph to see how this impacts results. Is this actually linear? For a hard task is there a breakpoint where it just starts to be able to do it? Or is it just % likelihood of success? Or just how many tokens are required for any given task? Some combination?

I find it extremely hard to believe legislation or some kind of global AI pause (thinking of the Paris Agreement) will do fuck all. Doing something about the climate crisis is & has been much much easier and that hasn't happened. We need systemic change or will likely be wiped out (by whatever).

Kai Jellinghaus @kaij.party · 10/09/2026
We're constantly talking about how AI may end human existence. The climate crisis will cause massive (human) harm & render large parts of our planet uninhabitable. This is scientific consensus. And we've known about this forever. And this has largely not mattered.
